I woulduggest layers of I x I D's for the rim joist if a 2 x ] 0 cannot be bent into the desired configuralioIo sue< essfuJ/y without the aid of deep (over 1/2 ") kerfs. Ifwiring or piping perpendicular to the joists is encoulltered, that wiring and /01' piping should be removed and reinstalled ill a manner consiS1~nt with Section 502.8 ofthe Indiana Residential Code. A flashing system where the deck abuts the wall must be devdol,ed to prevem water and snow from getting into the wall cavities around the new joists penetrations through the wall. If a space was provided between the wall covering and the first deck boa;d, any moisture in this area would more readily dry, aiding in the prevention ofmoid and wood r.Jl Because I can Dilly surmise how the garage door header was on;;inally built, I suggest the installation ofa 3/4" structural panel be added to the interior ,ide .)fthe garage door header.
