Talking Points for Carmel Chamber of Commerce luncheon at Ritz Charles

PARKS
· Monon Trail Progress - although nay-sayers were complaining that the trail would
never be built, it is being used today and construction continues to complete the trail.
A ceremony was held earlier this year to dedicate a portion of the trail and unveil a
mosaic turtle and pond sculpture. Tree Boy and the students from Mohawk Trails
(who built the turtle) attended the ceremony
· Inlow - Water Park Phase One completed
· West park - under construction
· Central Park - describe location- purchase completed early this year. 100 acres
community center envisioned.
· Master plan for developing our parkland is under
development and will soon be presented
· Randy Auler, -IN Parks and Rec. Assoc.
Outstanding Service Award - this shows the quality of workforce and the
dedication to purpose that we have here in Carmel.
ROAD AND STREET IMPROVEMENTS · Get our infrastructure in ahead of traffic problems
· CarmelDrive Streetscape-describe, schedule
Range Line and 126th intersection mostly completed-street lights turned on soon.
· Pennsylvania Street-will run from 106th to Old Meridian-making connection

· Roundabout Accident Rate
· 116th Improvements-
Metropolitan Planning Organization approved $1.6 million for land acquisition along
! 16th.

PUBLIC SAFETY
· 5 new police officers finished with Academy and are being trained with experienced
officers
· 15 new recruits at the Fire Dept.
· Two new stations in cooperation with the township
· Better insurance rating awarded that will lower homeowner and business insurance rates
throughout Carmel
· Early Warning and Evacuation System to be tested soon. To be used for public safety
and emergencies such as snow storm, crime, tornado, chemical spills, etc. Carmel is
test site along with Boulder, CO and city in New York.
UTILITIES storage tank-which won the Excellence in Public Works
· Water- new 3 million gallon
Award from the Indiana Chapter of the American concrete Institute.
· No rate increases in sewer or water
· Indiana Assoc. of Cities and towns honored our Household Hazardous Waste disposal
program with the Community Achievement Award during the annual meeting in
Evansville.
· Investigating whether the possibility exists to buy Indianapolis Water Company lines
within Carmel.
We live in an exciting time in Carmel. It is a time that has already passed by older
cities but we have the wonderful responsibility and privilege to be able to design our
city for the next centuries. This responsibility requires that the community show
vision, exercise creativity and aggressively approach the future.
The decisions we make during today will determine how our city looks for ali time.
Our city is on track with this vision. We can and will continue to make Carmel the
best place to live, work and raise a family. Embrace this vision with us.
