Dear Sir or Madam:
Please find enclosed an information packet for the Cingular Wireless sign
variance request pertaining to size. Cingular Wireless will.be a new tenant at the
Nine Parkwood facility, 900 East 96th Street.
The Cingular Wireless sign will be placed at the north end of the east facade.
The proposed sign is 92.7 square feet, with a significant portion of that area
being empty space. The proposed sign is 2.7 square feet larger than allowed by
ordinance. The larger size is being requested to ensure readability of the sign
from the road.
If you have questions regarding the attached variance petition, please do not
hesitate to contact our office. We look forward to presenting this petition to you

The proposed sign design contains a significant amount of "dead space". Requiring a smaller sign size. would affect
the readabilitv of the sign from the roads, and cause a hardship for visitors to the site.

FINDINGS OF FACT - DEVELOPMENT STANDARDS VARIANCE
1. The approval of this variance will not be injurious to the public health, safety, morals and general welfare of the
community because:
the sign will be fabricated by an experienced sign company and will be internally illuminated. The sign will be
installed by professionals using standard engineering practices.
2. The use and value of the area adjacent to the property included in the variance will not be affected in a substantially
adverse manner because:
the surrounding areas of this site are similarly zoned and are develooed with similar commercial development with
similar maior tenant signs.
3. The strict application of the terms of the Zoning Ordinance to the property will result in practical difficulties in the
use of the property because:
"dead soace" figures into the sign area, thus requiring a smaller sign size, possibly affecting the readability of the
signJromthe roads. possibly causing a hardship to patrons/visitors to the site.
DECISION
IT IS THEREFORE the decision of the Carmel/Clay Board of Zoning Appeals that Development Standards Variance Docket
No. is granted, subject to any conditions stated in the minutes of this Board, which are incorporated
herein by reference and made a part hereof.
