Mr. Winston Long

Cannel, IN 46033
Dear Mr. Long:
In reviewing our past due accounts, it was brought to my attention that your Use Variance
(UV 11-01) application fee of$I,050 is still unpaid. These fees are due prior to a hearing.
In your case the date of the hearing was February 26,2001.
Please remit the $1,050 as soon as possible so the State Board of Accounts can close our
books for the year 200 1. Your check should be made payable to the City of Cannel.

Mr. Long,
I am certainly willing to meet with you if you would like, but I hope that this e-mail will sufficiently explain the Department's
position in this and similar cases,
It is the Department's policy to oppose the encroachment of business uses, regardless of relative intensity, into residential
areas generally. The Department has been fairly consistent in this position for a number of years now, and will continue to
be,
That being the case, I would ask that you reconsider you request to table your petition. The Board of Zoning Appeals is in
no way obligated to act on the recommendation of the Department of Community Services, and I believe you would only be
costing yourself a month in an attempt to convince the Department to reverse a long-standing policy of opposition. The
persons you ultimately need to expend your efforts to convince of the merit of your case are the members of the Board of
Zoning Appeals, and you can only accomplish this by being heard.
That being the case, I will not act upon your request to table until Monday after you've had an opportunity to consider what
I've communicated here. Please contact me Monday the 26th to let me know what your decision regarding the tabling of
your petition will be.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
Laurence M. Lillig, Jr.
Planning & Zoning Administrator

Subject: Table petition
This purpose of this email is to officially request tabling my request to appear before the BZA next week. I have just
received the docket for the meeting and noted a negative recommendation from your department. I would like to
schedule a time to meet with you, and any other persons you feel necessary to discuss my petition and hopefully sort
through any issues that
remain.
Thank you for your attention to this request.
