I figure we can work through the engineering issues concurrent with construction. Approvals were obtained on 6/25/05 and, because construction had not commenced, John Robinson requested and you granted a 6 month extension. Since then, the existing Sunrise building was demolished, but the construction contractor, Zeller Construction and Development (Bruce Zeller), has been delayed in obtaining a building permit. John Robinson relays to me that the delay is caused by the disappearance of their I architect/owner's representative. Apparently, after the DP/ADLS, zoning waivers, and developmental variances were obtained, the architect/owner's rep left for a job in Chicago and "dropped the ball". This was not ' discovered until Bruce Zeller became involved and attempted 10 obtain a building permit, only to learn that there were many outstanding technical/construction matters. Bruce has succeeded in clearing most of these issues, but has been waiting for communication from the engineering department. My questions are twofold. First, I wanted to confirm with you that the demolition of the building, and the subsequent attempts to obtain a building permit, constitute the commencement of continuous construction, obviating the need for another ex1ension; if not, we may need to ask the BZA for a variance extending the time. Please let me know. Once the building permit is obtained, they will immediately continue with the physical process of development and building. They are very anxious to get going, and somewhat distraught over the situation. Second, I wanted to know whether you thought there was anything we might diplomatically do to get feedback from the engineering department. I could call and inquire, but I know that they are very busy, making prompt t replies somewhat difficult. Perhaps we could be placed on the T AC agenda for 9/20, but they really do not want to wait that long. I am just brain stormlng--they are very anxious to get this redevelopment completed. I am trying to establish where this project is located and when it was reviewed so we can check status of any comments having been addressed. Did the project change names? Do you have drainage approval and approved construction drawings from Engineering? Have any and all Board of Public Works and Safety approvals been obtained and any outstanding fees paid and performance guarantees been posted?
