This infographic examines statistics related to housing prices and affordability in the City of Carmel to determine how various measures of affordability compare to that of the larger geographies it lies within. Metrics show that Carmel households have more rooms per occupant as well as more rooms per housing unit than averages at the state and national level. The data also shows that a majority of residents own rather than rent. Median home values in Carmel sit at just over double those in Indiana. Similarly, mortgage and rent payments measure much higher in the city. Carmel households also earn more than those at the national and state level. Experts advise not to spend more than 30% of income on housing. Carmel data shows that median housing payments sit far below 30% for owners and renters, illustrating Carmel residents pay higher prices but do not experience hardship to make payments.
