The site is located at 520 East Main Street. The site is zoned R-2/Residence.
The following signs will require Sign Permits should the Board approve the
associated Developmental Standards Variances: Si2D # 5. Sim #6. Sim #14. Sisro #20.
Sim #24. and Sisro #30.
These \,>etitions arise from the Board of Zoning Appeals' approval of Docket Nos.
V-62-00. V-63-00. and V-64-00. for signage at Cherry Tree Elementary School on
September 25. 2000. The Condition attached to that approval reQuires the Carmel/Clay
School Corporation to bring the signage at all its facilities into compliance within two (2)
years of the date of those approvals. Carmel High School is the first facility to be
brought forward since that decision.
Carmel High School is a unique facility in the iurisdiction of the City of Carmel
& Clay Township in that its permeability as a structure makes the number of Directional
Signs located on site a necessity. The variety of facilities located within the structure
itself makes accurate external identification of the appropriate entrance for each
necessary. Although the signage constitutes several existing violations of the Sign
Ordinance. the Department recommends favorable consideration of these petitions.
