I recently discovered there is a proposed plan to build a LIQUOR STORE at 4350 Weston Pointe Drive, next to the entrance to our neighborhood, as well as just a block or so from an entrance to the adjoining neighborhood, The Villages at Weston Place. The addition of a liquor store at this location would dramatically alter the neighborhood, in both perceived and real life terms. Just knowing there is a liquor store so close to homes will immediately discourage potential home buyers to the properties. Who wants to live a block away, or down the street from a liquor store?? Nobody I know. It is certainly going to negatively impact property values. As for real life potential dangers, there are lots of children and young families that live in the neighborhood. Please consider the following having exposure to the liquor store & its customers: 1. Some customers for certain (but not all) will be inebriated and therefore unsafe, and is truly an UNNECESSARY risk to children (it’s not like this is a MedCheck or other business that serves the community). 2. Important is consideration of the potential crime that such people can bring to an otherwise quiet neighborhood. 3. Also, given there is a child care business nearby, that only increases the likelihood of the stores customer interactions with children, thereby increasing risk. Isn’t there a law or regulation about how close such businesses can be to a childcare center? 4. Most importantly and disturbing is the fact that about one block into the neighborhood from the proposed liquor store location, is a community SCHOOL BUS STOP for children in the neighborhood. How in the world can it be considered safe for children to be waiting for, then getting off a school bus, many by themselves, in view of a liquor store and the people that may frequent or loiter around there?! I am in Arizona today so I am unable to attend this meeting live, like I have in the past for similar such issues. Please include my reasons (above ) when considering such a business on the border of our neighborhood. Regards, Geri Kiesler 3941 Weston Pointe Dr 1
