HomeMy WebLinkAboutLetter #29 Maggie Samudio Butler, Bric From:Maggie Samudio <msam2@yahoo.com> Sent:Tuesday, January 30, 2024 11:12 AM To:Butler, Bric Cc:Green, Anthony Subject:Objection to JGV Overdevelopment (daycare/school) Follow Up Flag:Follow up Flag Status:Flagged I am not opposed to progress and change as long as the progress and change have been well thought out, has the approval of the current residents, and will significantly benefit the existing community. As I recall, when I first moved to Jackson’s Grant in 2019, a majority of the JG residents opposed the overdevelopment of Jackson’s Grant Village from the get-go. I purchased my lot in Jackson’s Grant in good faith, and remember asking what the plan was for the surrounding area. I was told that the surrounding area would stay the same. What about all of the advertised promises that were made regarding Jackson’s Grant and the surrounding area? What happened to “UNBRIDLED ELEGANCE AT EVERY TURN?” What happened to, “Responding to the site’s pastoral character, the developer has paid special attention to view corridors, providing for scenic beauty at every turn, so every site has much to offer.” What happened to, “Thirteen contiguous forested acres, plus several wooded preserves and trails, will remain untouched. Long stretches of the creek banks will be left intact, and accessible for walking, relaxing and communing with nature.” These sound like broken promises to me. The overdevelopment of Jackson’s Grant Village continued, despite the objections of the residents of Jackson’s Grant. It was obvious that the powers 1 that be, were going to do what they wanted to do no matter what. Maybe the question should be, “Who will benefit from this overdevelopment?” Please know that I’m a retired teacher, and I have nothing against daycare centers or schools. However, I object to and question the logic of placing a daycare center/school in an area that is already overdeveloped and will create additional traffic and safety concerns. In my opinion, the addition of commercial sites in JGV are totally unnecessary due to the convenience and proximity of visiting the shops at The Bridges. I will continue to lend my patronage to the businesses at the Bridges. If the city of Carmel truly cares about its reputation, the votes of their constituents, and their tax paying residents, please reconsider the unbridled desire to overdevelop what was once a quaint and peaceful city. Isn’t it more desirable to have a peaceful, serene neighborhood free from commercial overload? Once again, I ask, what is the benefit of overdevelopment? Who benefits from overdevelopment? Respectfully, Maggie Resident of Jackson’s Grant 2
