HomeMy WebLinkAboutPacket for HO 04-22-24Docket No. Assignment: Dooley Short Term Residential Rental (PZ-2024-00040 SE) To whom it may concern: My name is Sarah Dooley and I currently reside at 412 Oak Dr, Carmel, IN 46032. 1 moved into the home and neighborhood which I love in April of 2022. My primarily business is an executive search firm in the specialty chemicals space which saw boom years during and after COVID due to many of our partners being involved in the production of products going into hand sanitizer, soaps, lotions, and detergents. In Q2 of 2023, our customers saw the same impact as the tech bubble bursting where our business went from strong to a standstill. My team consists includes a military spouse, a new parent, and a working mom who are all remote. The income they make is crucial to their families. I made the tough decision in April of 2023 to stop paying myself to ensure I could keep my team afloat, but came to a point in August of 2023 where I needed to provide myself an alternative outcome. Due to wearing a lot of hats while trying to keep my business and team afloat, I was not aware of the requirement through the City of Carmel, but the day upon receiving the notification I worked to move into compliance. I prescreen all applicants that stay at the property and have had very positive experiences selecting families traveling with pets and children. The property is set up to have no more than 6 guests and I only select guests who have previous positive ratings. I appreciate your help in approving the continued use of my property as a part-time AirBnB. By being able to use the property approximately 2 weekends a month, I can continue to forgo paying myself in the short-term to keep my team employed as my primary business rebounds. Sign In Unit I hereby state that in the event that a special exemption is granted, I will post a clearly printed sign on the front door of the Dwelling that provides information regarding the location of any fire extinguishers and any utility shut -of values, fire exits, or pull fire alarms. This information is provided to guests prior to any stay and available in the AirBnB listing. Electronic Copy of explanation of Special Exception request. See Findings of Fact -Special Exemption. The full property is utilized approximately two weekends a month. The guests that I have are prescreened and primarily include families traveling with children or pets that are visiting family in the area or visiting the area due to tourism. Recent guests included a family from Minnesota who visited the area to view the eclipse. I provided them with local dining options and always try to promote other businesses in the Carmel area.
