4b. As discussed on site, the engineer of record who performed
a~d certified the original truss design is to be contacted
and is to determine if the notched top chord requires any
reinforcement.
4c. The rloor truss that had the top chord cut out for a
plumbing line has been repaired with the installation of a
full depth wood panel gusset, It is my opinion that the
repair is adequate
4d. The garage door header is to be modified to include wood
panel aheathing on the interior, extending from the bottom
of the LVL header to the top of the double plate which is
approximately 25" above the bottom of the LVL. The
sheathing is to be attached to each of the plates, each of
the cripple studs and the LVL header with 8d nails spaced at
1-1/Z" o.c. The exterior wood panel sheathing is to also
receive additional nailing. The result will be a box beam
whose depth will be from the top plates to the top of door
opening.
4e. The exterior, balcony, as shown on the drawings, was checked
for"the code p.-escrioed loads. The 3-1/Z"xll-l/4" PSL
joists spanning app.oximately 24 feet and spaced at 16"

feet perpendicular to the wall and the 4"x4" exterior-posts'

RE: Guilford Condos

Dear Dave,
ThiS is in response to your request that I address several of the
items contained in the inspection memo from James A. Ochs, dated
June 16, 2006 (Subject, 05100118, 70-120 Guilford)regarding the
above referenced project.
Based on our site visit on June 20, 2006 and subsequent drawing
review and structural analysis and ~y return visit earlier today,
the following are my responses to issues addressed in item 4 of
Mr. Qch~ memo: _~_ ___
4a. The framing for the gable end truss were found to have been
~odified to include horizontal ~outriggersH between the
bottom chord of the gable truss and the bottom chord of the
nearest adjacent roof truss. These consist of 2x4's spaced
at approximately 16' on center. The ends of the outriggers
are attached to continuous 2x4's run parallel to and nailed
to the bottom chords of the gable and interior roof trusses.
The outriggers cross over and bear directly over the 2x4
wall below. In addition, 2x4 diagonals have been run from
each of the vertieals of the gable truss downward to the top
plate assembly to transfer load to the stud wall below. The
2x12 plate that sits on the 2x4 wall top plates has 1/4'x6"
lag screws attaching it through the 2x4 top plates into the
studs and the 2~12 has metal straps anchoring its insidQ
edge to the studs.
Based on ~y review, it is my oplnlon that the gable end wall
is now adequately attached and supported.
P2!
