CARMEL/CLAY PLAN COMMISSION
SPECIAL STUDIES COMMITTEE
DEPARTMENT REPORT
November 12,2002
5. Docket No. 142-02 ADLS Amend; 501 Congressional Boulevard - Sign Program
Petitioner seeks amended Architectural Design, Lighting, Landscaping & Signage
approval of a sign program. The site is located at 501 Congressional Blvd. The site is
zoned B-6 Business.
Filed by Steven Granner of Bose McKinney & Evans for Duke Realty Limited
Partnership.
The applicant is requesting ADLS Amendment approval for a wall signage program. Please see
information packet for elevations and details. As the Committee may recall this site was the
subject of an approval granted last month for another sign (see tab eight).
The proposed signs meet the size requirements of the Ordinance. However, the applicant is
requesting the one additional sign be permitted and that that sign could be placed on the south
faced of the building as opposed to the side which it has frontage.
Tab six and eight may be confusing in that they illustrate as many as six sign locations. The
request is for a total of three signs that could be placed on the elevations. Two signs could be on
the south fa9ade, one on the west and one on the north. The exhibits just identify possible
locations.
The Department is not opposed to the Variance requests. However, the Department would like
to see a consistent design approach to building signage at this location. The current proposal
would allow for either red, black, green or white copy in addition to different colored logos.
The Department recommends that the Special Studies Committee approve the ADLS
application after all comments and concerns have been addressed.
Note: The item only requires approval by the Special Studies Committee.
