Dear Mr. Arnold:
The soil conditions, found at the time of excavation, warranted the modification of the soil
underlying the north and west footings of the above referenced residential addition project.
Due to the severely deteriorated condition of the soil under the north and west footings,
excavating and removing the material was, in our engineering opinion, required. In ortlerto
preserve the load carrying ability of the underlying soil, restrained compacted stone was
substituted for the underlying "muck" conditions found upon preparing for the installation of
the new footing.
At our direction the muck conditions were removed directly under the new footings.
Compacted #53's were placed, under the footing, in 6-inch lifts. The Clay soil, surrounding
the stone, restrains the underlying material to provide excellent load carrying capacities,
usually exceeding the capabilities of in-situ materials.
In addition to the modified foundation condition the undermined footing at the front wall of
the home was examined. The undermined conditioned occurred due to the basement
excavation over-dig. The existing footing acts much like an industry standard, precast
concrete lintel. in supporting the four;lding loads above. It Is our opinion that the
undermined footing is adequate to support the loads intended. Care should be taken atthe
time of backfill to replace as much support as can pe, by compacting the fill located under
this footing.

The above stated opinions are based on the physical evidence present at the time of our
inspection.
Unless further technical assistance is required, the writer considers the above as complete
and sufficient per the scope of engineering work requested, and will provide no further
technical assistance.
Respectfully submitted;

Mr. Holht;
I am the consultant working with BLS on the above referenced home addition
project. Please find my documentation of our direction of the soil condition repair
in preparation for the footings. If there are any questions, please do not hesitate
to contact me.
Tim
PS: This project is just a little different than the Jason MCCoy construction project
in Brookshire, would you say?
