Bric,
My family moved to Carmel over 35 years ago. In the last few years, it feels as though Carmel is adding apartments
and condos at a very high rate and that our infrastructure can not handle the load. I thought we, the residents of
Carmel, were told this was done to be able to provide “a?ordable” housing in the community but the prices for
these apartment/condo options are no where near “a?ordable” for those working in the services industry.
In addition, I fear that this type of development will degrade over time as the main floor tenants go in and out of
business. If you walk the street in front of some of the complexes you will find bushes littered with beer cans and
fast food trash. If Carmel cannot manage keeping our streets clean and clear of litter at the current level of this
type of housing, imagine what it will look like once every side of Main and Old Meridian (and every other round
about) is surrounded with these structures.
I strongly oppose additional stacked multifamily housing projects for Carmel. I would like to urge the committee
to focus on improving the availability of single family residences and take a good long pause on additional building
projects that involve main level restaurants and stores with condo/apartments stacked on top. Perhaps focus on
how to best upgrade our roads and community parks and services to support the individuals and families that now
call Carmel home.
I appreciate your time and consideration.
Wanza
