Glad you found the meetings, and that we are on the right track with some of your other concerns. Also, if you’re interested in viewing previous Housing Task Force meetings, there are links available for each on the Housing Task Force page on the city’s website. Have a great day! Adrienne Keeling From: Sayles Family <saylesfam@gmail.com> Sent: Thursday, August 8, 2024 10:19 AM To: Keeling, Adrienne M <akeeling@carmel.in.gov> Subject: Housing Task Force Good morning, Unfortunately I came late to the Housing Task Force meetings, only watching it live on July 25th and August 8th (today). They were very informative meetings and I'd like to thank all those on the committee for their input, research and talking with residents about their concerns. Many of my concerns have already been addressed (as a senior, I would like to downsize my 5 bedroom house to a single family ranch without having to upsize my price.) Another concern is for housing for people with disabilities. We have lived in Carmel for over 25 years and 2 of our 4 children went through Carmel Schools, with our youngest (30 year old with Down syndrome) in Special Ed. Her last 2 years she attended the then newly created Vital 4 program at the high school. She lived independently at Penn Circle with a typical friend for a number of years until the friend got married. We were excited to hear about the North End development and immediately put our daughter on their interest list (2021) where we waited for almost 2 years. Someone dropped the ball and we never got the correspondence last year about the lottery system (nor did 2 other friends of mine on the same waiting list!) I'm still pretty upset about that lost opportunity (sorry for digressing)! There are many residents of Carmel with special needs (the school district could verify that). It is my hope, and many of my friends with special needs young adults living at home, that would love to see more housing for this special population. 1 Unique 'Independent Living' developments (North End being one) are finally being addressed in a lot of surrounding communities and states. Carmel does wonderful things, can this be something the Task Force addresses? Let's try to keep ALL our citizens here in Carmel where many have jobs, family and friends. Thank you for listening. I hope I'm not too late to be considered for adding this to the final Task Force proposal. Sincerely, Terri Sayles 2
