EXECUTIVE ORDER
SF-2024-18
WHEREAS, as Mayor the City of Carmel,Indiana("Cannel" or"City"), and pursuant to
Indiana Code 35-4-5-3,I am responsible for the enforcement of City ordinances and State statutes
within the corporate boundaries of Cannel; and
WHEREAS, Cannel is committed to ensuring the community supports residents who are
veterans of the Armed Services and their families; and
WHEREAS, Cannel is grateful for the selfless service of our veterans and the countless
sacrifices made by them and their families; and
WHEREAS, Cannel is committed to establishing, continuing, and improving services,
benefits, and protections to veterans and their families.
NOW,THEREFORE,by virtue of the power and authority granted to me as Mayor of the
City of Carmel, Indiana, I, Sue Finkam, do hereby declare and order that, effective on and after
July 16th, 2024:
(1) There shall be established a "Mayor's Advisory Commission on Veterans and Military
Families" (the"Commission").
(2) The mission of the Commission shall be to:
a. Explore and advise on whether new and expanded services are necessary for
veterans.
b. Evaluate physical,psychological, social, and economic challenges facing veterans
and offer solutions to removing barriers to healthcare,treatment, employment, and
others.
c. Ensure veterans are familiar with post-military programs and resources.
d. Discover methods to ensure smooth transition from military service to civilian life.
(3) The Commission shall consist of a volunteer body of up to eleven(11)members appointed
by the Mayor,which members shall represent a cross-section of the Armed Services veteran
citizens and business owners of Carmel or who have necessary educational background,
professional or life experience.
(4) Six (6) of the initial Commission members shall be appointed for one (1) year terms and
five (5) of the initial Commission members shall be appointed for two (2) year terms, to
hold over until a successor is duly appointed, and may be re-appointed. All subsequent
Commission members shall be for two (2) years each, and there shall be no limit on the
number of terms a member may serve on the Commission.
