EXECUTIVE ORDER
SF-2024-19
WHEREAS, as Mayor the City of Cannel, Indiana("Carmel"or"City"), and pursuant to
Indiana Code 35-4-5-3,I am responsible for the enforcement of City ordinances and State statutes
within the corporate boundaries of Cannel; and
WHEREAS, Cannel is committed to ensuring the community supports residents who are
of or nearing retirement age to make the City an easier place to thrive; and
WHEREAS, Cannel citizens who are at or nearing retirement age desire to remain in
Carmel,which necessitates addressing access to a broad range of public and private resources and
services; and
WHEREAS, Cannel will benefit from an advisory Commission on Senior Living with a
purpose to advise the Mayor on 1)housing needs,2) opportunities for physical, recreational, and
educational activities, 3) online resources, and 4) environmental safety and accessibility.
NOW,THEREFORE,by virtue of the power and authority granted to me as Mayor of the
City of Cannel, Indiana I, Sue Finkam, do hereby declare and order that, effective on and after
July 301,2024:
(1) There shall be established a "Mayor's Advisory Commission on Senior Living" (the
"Commission").
(2) The Commission's mission shall be to:
a. Explore and advise on efforts to bring more senior housing to the City.
b. Evaluate ways to expand physical,recreational and educational activities for older
adults.
c. Provide feedback regarding online offerings and resources that will enhance access
to support services for older adults.
d. Discover methods to ensure our community environment promotes active aging.
(3) The Commission shall consist of a volunteer body of up to nine(9)members appointed by
the Mayor, which members shall represent a cross-section of the citizens of Carmel who
are at or nearing retirement age and who have necessary educational background,
professional or life experience.
(4) Five(5) of the initial Commission members shall be appointed for one (1)year terms and
four (4) of the initial Commission members shall be appointed for two (2) year terms, to
hold over until a successor is duly appointed, and may be re-appointed. All subsequent
Commission members shall be appointed or reappointed for two(2)year terms.There shall
be no limit on the number of terms a member may serve on the Commission.
(5) The Commission shall meet on an as-needed basis or as directed by the Mayor.
