HomeMy WebLinkAboutMural Plan - Bru Burger Carmel Mural Artist StatementMy name is Josh Brinson aka Bezol One, and I am a muralist and graphic designer from Indianapolis,
Indiana. I have partnered with Mike Cunningham of Cunningham Restaurant Group to bring a vibrant and
energetic mural measuring 77 ft. x 18 ft. to the patio of their Bru Burger location in Carmel. This mural
prominently features graffiti, breakdancing, a cheeseburger, and a greyhound to represent food and fun
in Carmel in a fresh and funky capacity.
The left side of the mural features abstract geometrics and graffiti lettering that will peek out through the
trees and add pops of color as the leaves sway with the breeze. Street signs for the Old Meridian and trees and add pops of color as the leaves sway with the breeze. Street signs for the Old Meridian and
West Main intersection can be seen above the graffiti lettering with a moonlit cityscape beyond. A break
dancer can be found in the center of the piece busting a move, inspired by the active rhythm of the city.
A classic American cheeseburger emerges from behind the dancer to represent the origins of Bru Burger
as a restaurant and the culinary culture of Carmel. Roses bloom from behind it as a nod to the
‘Grace, Love and Joy’ sculpture at the North Pennsylvania and Old Meridian roundabout. Lastly, a colorful
greyhound emerges from the evergreen trees on the right, paying homage to Carmel High School’s greyhound emerges from the evergreen trees on the right, paying homage to Carmel High School’s
beloved mascot. Overall we hope to inspire creativity, adventure, and an active lifestyle within those that
view this mural.
The wall will be cleaned with a pressure washer to ensure a suitable surface for this project. The mural
will then be installed using Belton Molotow Premium spray paints. These paints are renowned for having
the highest density of pigments of any spray paint brand. They are also fully weatherproof and incredibly
lightfast, meaning the colors will not fade from exposure to the sun and elements.

layer of protection from the elements. I plan to conduct an on-site inspection one year from the completion
of this mural to evaluate it’s condition. Following that inspection, the management staff at Bru Burger
Carmel will be responsible for monitoring the condition of the mural and notifying me of any required
maintenance. Based on the application methods and quality of materials being used, this mural is
expected to last at least five years before needing any touch-ups or maintenance. If and when the time
comes that it does require attention, I will work directly with Mike and Cunningham Restaurant Group to comes that it does require attention, I will work directly with Mike and Cunningham Restaurant Group to
coordinate prompt maintenance. Said work will either be conducted by myself or a trusted associate.
Records of all colors used will be kept to ensure accurate color-matching in either case.
If Bru Burger vacates the premises, Cunningham Restaurant Group will be responsible for painting over
this mural, if that is the required course of action and/or preference of the new tenant. Given the fact that
Cunningham Restaurant Group owns the full strip of buildings at this location, any future tenant would likely
be renting the property from them. If that is the case, whether or not the mural is painted over would be be renting the property from them. If that is the case, whether or not the mural is painted over would be
determined by correspondence between Cunningham Restaurant Group and the new tenant. If the mural
would be painted over, commercial painters would be hired to do so.
Graffiti and street art are long-standing art forms that center around the transformation of stark structures
into vibrant visuals. Mike discovered my work for the NBA All-Star Game at the underpasses around
Gainbridge Fieldhouse and decided he wanted to bring some of that flavor to his restaurant in Carmel.
Whereas a dark grey wall has served as the backdrop for his guests up to this point, this mural introduces
a new colorful dynamic to the space, thus enhancing the experience for all of his visitors. We look forward a new colorful dynamic to the space, thus enhancing the experience for all of his visitors. We look forward
to the smiling faces of families that snap photos in front of it, as well as the curiosity this mural imparts on
the younger generations of Carmel residents.
