I received calls daily from people that wanted to lease a business space. I had purchased the ten acres, and I decided to build A-fohawk Place as it is now. vVhile the acreage was zoned I-I, I knew that Carmel was ready to boom and the 1-1 zoning was not correct. jJ-/ohawk Place was built to conform to a B-1 zoning, and there is no more room for building. Now, someone in the city's governing body wants to designate Jllohawk Place as blighted. We do object to that designation. My tenants are already nervous, as rumors have been started that are false. And even though the City has promised to leave Jllohawk Place alone, the blighted term is the first step to eminent domain. I have had my Indiana Brokers License since 1952, and am aware of what can happen once the" Blighted" designation is granted. Should I ever decide to sell A-fohaw/, PI.ace the contract would be subject to the purchaser working with the Carmel Redevelopment Commission. We request that the public hearing on this matter be continued. It has come to my client's attention over the weekend that the Carmel Redevelopment Commission is in the process of identifying and designating the Mohawk Place Shopping Center as a "Blighted Area." This has a material impact on my client's view of the rezoning, and additional time is necessary to review the facts and statutes to ascertain the affect of the Carmel Redevelopment Commission's actions on the rezoning and the impact on my client's legal and financial interest in the Center. Accordingly, my client respectfully requests that the CarmeVClay Plan Commission hearing on Docket No. 96-02 Z be continued.
