Carmel, IN 46032
Dear Committee Member:
In early 2007, Hamilton Beverage, one of a family of stores owned and operated by United
Package Liquors, submitted to the City of Carmel an application for an ADLS Amendment for an exterior
remodel and new signage for their store located at 2290 E I 16th Street. The Special Studies Committee
heard the ADLS amendment on March 29,2007. The remodel was approved, while the sign discussion
was tabled until after a hearing by the Board of Zoning Appeals.
On May 21,2007, the Carmel Board of Zoning Appeals approved a 50.67 square foot sign for the
east elevation of the Hamilton Beverage building and a 75 square foot sign for the 116th Street elevation
of the building. The result is a total of 125.67 square feet of signage, a decrease of more than 31 % from
the current store signage. Attached you will find a rendering of the proposed remodeled building, as well
as the signage plans as approved by the BZA.
Additionally, the following conditions were required of the petitioner as part of the March 29
Special Studies Committee approval: removal of the newspaper boxes, relocation of the dumpster to the
west side of the building and enclosure with a fence, a reduction of the number of vending machines to
two, and removal of the window signs. To date, Hamilton Beverage has removed the newspaper boxes
and one of the vending machines. A photo of the current eastern building elevation is attached, as is a
photo of a representative dumpster enclosure. The enclosure will be painted at the request of the BZA.
Thank you for your consideration of this project. We look forward to presenting this project at
the Special Studies Committee meeting on June 5.
Sincerely,
G\~.u'r:0V~~
