RESOLUTION NO. BPW- 11-20-24-01
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF CARMEL BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY SETTING
THE MEETING FOR THE ELECTIONS OF THE TWO (2) ELECTED CARMEL POLICE MERIT
BOARD COMMISSIONERS
WHEREAS, the City of Carmel established the Carmel Police Merit Board under Carmel City Code § 6-33
and Indiana Code § 36-1-4-14, consisting of five (5) Commissioners;
WHEREAS, pursuant to Carmel City Code § 6-33(c), “two commissioners of the Police Board shall be
elected by the active members of the Police Department, all in accordance with the provisions of I.C., 36-8-3.5-8”;
WHEREAS, pursuant to Carmel City Code § 6-33(c), the two (2) elected Commissioners are elected for a
two-year period;
WHEREAS, pursuant Indiana Code § 36-8-3.5-8, incorporated by Carmel City Code § 6-33(c), an election
to be made by the active members of the department shall be made at a meeting called specifically for that purpose
by the Board of Public Works and Safety;
WHEREAS, pursuant to Indiana Code § 36-8-3.5-8, incorporated by Carmel City Code § 6-33(c), the Board
“shall give at least three (3) weeks' notice of the meeting to all active members of the department by posting the
notice in prominent locations in stations of the department[,] [t]he notice shall also be read during shift roll calls[,
and] [t]he notice must designate the time, place, and purpose of the meeting; and
WHEREAS, with the Commissioners’ two-year terms soon to expire, it is necessary now to schedule a
meeting to elect two (2) elected Commissioners under Carmel City Code § 6-33 and Indiana Code § 36-8-3.5-8.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City of Carmel Board of Public Works and Safety, that:
Section 1. The foregoing Recitals are incorporated herein by this reference.
Section 2. The meeting to elect two (2) elected Carmel Police Merit Board Commissioners, under Carmel
City Code § 6-33 and Indiana Code § 36-8-3.5-8, is hereby scheduled for December 16, 2024, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00
p.m., in the Training Room at the Carmel Police Department.
Section 3. The Carmel Police Department shall provide the notice of this meeting (Attachment 1) in
accordance with Carmel City Code § 6-33(c) and Indiana Code § 36-8-3.5-8.
