ACOUSTICAL PERFORMANCE
"The generator enclosure has been specified to achieve a noise level of
no more than 65 dB(A) when measured from any face, end, side, opening,
etc. This includes ventilation intake and discharge paths, as well as
hot gas exhaust. The generator is proposed to locate facing Highway 31,
15’ from the property line to the adjacent hotel, currently a Hilton
Garden Inn, at 13090 N. Pennsylvania Avenue. The generator enclosure
will sit inside a split face concrete block building which is provided
with a pair of double doors, as well as intake and exhaust louvers on
the ends.
The city of Carmel Indiana code item 6-158 cites Noise Regulations and
requires that the following is prohibited: noise that is audible at 40
feet or more from its source or is at 90 decibels or more measured not
less than 6 feet from its source. With the manufacturer’s enclosure and
concrete building, generator operation should be within 50 dB(A) at 40
feet - likely inaudible over noise from typical traffic flow on Highway
31. It will also be less than 90 decibels when measured within 6 feet.
We project noise levels of 55 to 60 dB(A) at the property line during
generator operation, due to marginal attenuation provided by distance
and the enclosure. This should be at or below existing daytime ambient
due to traffic noise from Highway 31. Considering the hotel guest
rooms, located 100’+ from the generator, we project approximately 40
dB(A) as measured inside an open window, which should be at or below
HVAC system noise and non-intrusive to guests."
