CARMEL PLAN COMMISSION
SPECIAL STUDIES COMMITTEE
DEPARTMENT REPORT
June 5,2007
1. Docket No. 07030026 ADLS Amend: Hamilton Beverage - Signage
The applicant seeks approval for two new wall signs.
The site is located at 2290 E. 116th St. and is zoned B-8/Business.
Filed by Mary Solada for Bingham McHale.
The applicant is requesting ADLS Amendment approval for new wall signs. A few months ago,
the committe~ approved the building's minor fa<;ade change. Please see the most recent
informational packet.
The proposed sign consists of three colors: white, red and green. The Department strongly
recommends that the signs' text utilize one color; preferably white, to match the eagle logo.
If not that, another option is to use day/night plex so the sign shines white at night, but shows
colors during the day. The petitioner should bring color or photo examples of other existing
SIgnS.
At the May 21 BZA meeting, variances were granted to permit the east sign to face east (not
oriented towards a public roadway) and for the sign sizes. The variance petition was amended to
allow for a 75 sq. ft. sign to face towards 116th street, reduced from 95 sq. ft., as previously
proposed. The eastern facing sign will be 50.67 sq. ft. in size.
Note: This item requires approval by this committee.
The Department of Community Services recommends that the Special Studies Committee
approve the request after all comments and concerns have been addressed.
