We Support Our Ownl Communities
Employees of Martin Marietta Aggregates not
only work, but live, in the communities where
our operations are based. Therefore, when we
support the nearby schools, fire stations, Scout
troops and other local groups, we are support-
ing our own employees, their families, and
their neighbors who own homes and pay taxes
in those same locales.
Parkland donated by Martin Marietta Aggregates.
The landscaping of our facilities blends with surrounding
communities.
We believe that being a good neighbor
not only involves taking care of our property,
it also involves donations of time, goods, and
money to groups that are providing a better
way of life for all of us in the area.
"Through your support, we can continue
to educate farmers in the ever-changing
field of agriculture."
- Indiana Young Farmers' Association
Our good-neighbor policy has been
recognized by industry organizations that have
commended us on our concern for our towns
and townships, and we receive hundreds of
letters and phone calls every year, thanking us
for our contributions.
{'We sincerely appreciate-your interest
and motivation"in enriching our region
for our generation and, most impor-
tantly, the'<?nes to come.'"

Our Adopt-A-School program is but one
example of the kinds of support we lend to
our communities. Through this program,
elementary school children visit our sites and
observe the processes that are necessary for
Martin Marietta to produce the aggregates
that are so necessary for virtually all aspects
of modern living.
We frequentfy visit classrooms to share information
with children.
"In al/ the field trips I've been involved
with, no one has ever taken as much
time or put forth a.s much effort to make
us feel welcome and to make it a
worthwhile learning experience."
- Elementary school teacher
"Martin Marietta Aggregates has been
a good neighbor to the Southwest Loc.al
School District. They came tei us with an
offer of a donation of eight acres of land
across from the high school. This will
aI/ow us to build an assembly center."

Provides Materials
for Basic Living
Martin Marietta Aggregates provides the found-
ation for our lives -literally. Not only our
foundations, but our roads and sidewalks as well
are created from the expanding network of more
than 275 quarries and distribution facilities in
more than 20 states, the Bahama Islands and
Canada. In an industry where proximity is a
critical factor, one of Martin Marietta Aggre-
gates' strengths is its strategic locations.
Martin Marietta Aggregates' division is
the second largest and one of the fastest grow-
ing among the major construction aggregates
producers in the United States.
Taking Care of Our
Own Business
Benefits Everyone
At the same time that we reach out to our local
communities to offer support, we are hard at
work, ensuring that our own facilities meet and
exceed standards for safety, environmental
concerns, and employee health and welfare.
Martin Marietta Aggregates contributes
considerable resources each year to making
sure our facilities are safe for our employees,
communities and visitors, and that they are
upheld with the highest standards of environ-
mental stewardship. Safe operating procedures
are a core value and we have a reward and
recognition system that acknowledges our
employees' responsible and safe operating
behaviors.
We believe that good citizenship begins
in our homes and is integrated throughout our
facilities. To support that belief, our ethics
program is an integral part of our everyday
operations.
Employee achievements are recognized at
both the local level and through corporate
publications where individual and corporate
community involvement is commended.
Not only are we committed to a safe and
healthy work environment, we are equally
conscious of the need to create and maintain a
safe and healthy environment for our neigh-
bors around our operations.
At Martin Marietta Aggregates, we have
created systems for pursuing excellence in all
these areas that exceed consistently govern-
ment regulations.
Reclamation is a vital part of our relation-
ship with our communities. Reclamation of
retired facilities is a significant and sequential
part of the land-use process. Through our
corporate-wide commitment, this land is often
converted to parks and recreational facilities
and donated to our local communities.
"We are proud of our company's record
of stewardship of the land and of our
commitment to bettering the communi-
ties where we have facilities."
- John Schuler
Martin Marietta Aggregates
Our mining operations provide sand,
gravel, and stone so that quality, safe roads are
available to local traffic. (Most of our materials
are used within 30 miles of our operations.)
In another sense, through our financial con-
tributions and our donations of talent, time
and materials, we are also helping to pave the
way to a better future for our children and our
neighbors' children and their families.
