Docket No. 07]00014 ADLS Amend: Smart Car Ph. 11- Signage The applicant seeks approval for three new signs. The site is located at 4000 E 961h S1. It is zoned B- 3/Business. Fi led by Jim Shinaver of Nelson and Frankenberger. The applicant is requesting approval for four new signs for a new car dealership along 96th St. There wiIl be a "Smart Center Indianapolis" wall sign located on the entry portal facing 96111 S1. This sign will be in addition to the previously approved "C Smart" sign (07090006 ADLS Amend). It will be 6'7" x 2'2.5" for a total of 14.54 sq. ft. It will be internally illuminated, individual channel letters with white faces. The sign will be white during both the day and night. The C Smart sign was approved at 28 sq. ft. The total square footage allowed for this frontage is 60. The two signs will be 42.54 sq. ft., well under the allotted square footage for this frontage. This sign required a variance and it was granted at the Hearing Officer Meeting on October 22 (07090007 V). The second sign will be a small directional sign facing Lake Shore Drive. ft stands 4'4" tall and its dimensions are 4' I" x 3 '4" for a square footage of 13.6. The total square footage allowed for directory signs is 20. The total square footage allowed for this frontage is 80. Together with the previously approved ground sign (07090006 ADLS Amend), the total square footage is 48.1 I. A variance was required to have this additional ground sign and was granted at the Hearing Officer Meeting on October 22 (07090009 V). This sign is white with black lettering and will be internally illuminated. The third sign will be father down Lake Shore Drive for the second tenant, the Mercedes Benz used car dealership. The sign will say "Used Car Center" and will be hack lit, individual letters mounted on a raceway. The applicant will need to specify sign face color and size. Lastly, an additional sign wiII be facing Lake Shore Drive for the Service center. This sign is only 2.06 sq. ft. in area. The signs dimensions are 2'9" x 9". The sign will be internally illuminated channel letters. It will be white during the day and night. Because this sign is less than 3 square feet, it is considered incidental and will not require a permit or a variance to be on the same frontage as the other two ground slgns. Note: This item only requires final approval by this committee. The Department of Community Services recommends the Special Studies Com mittee approve the request after all comments and concerns have been addressed.
