Mr. Mossner,
I should get up early and join you for your walks- I am always complaining there is no
time for exercise but I love the early mornings and it must be a great time to be out.
I will let the owner of the former Woods Wire building know about the graffiti.
I will also talk to our city engineer about lighting between Guilford and Old Town. ivYhile
we want the Cld Town area to progress and be exciting we also want it be very very safe
and comfortable.
Thanks for your help and I am glad to know our public safety officials are always there
quickly when there is a problem
Best regards,
Jim

Subject: Carmel Commendations & Concerns
Mayor Brainard,
We've previously corresponded regard'ng the creek in Iiilson Terrace Court and graffiti on
3rd Ave SW. The creek issue was completely resolved (at least for nowt when the city sent.
a crew to remove the brush- The graffiti in question was cleaned up shortly after our
communication. Those actions by the city are to be coxmended.
You may or may not be aware there is more graffiti on the rear of the old Woods Wire
building on 3rd Ave SW. It is visible from industrial Drive and has been there several
weeks.
Hopefully, _ can condense the rest of this, but a little background is required.
I enjoy walking and have not missed a daily walk in more than 12 years.
For the last ten years, those have nearly all been early morning 2-mile walks on the
streets of Carmel- Walking at 5:00 AM can lead to interesting experiences. I've called in
two water main breaks and last spring 3 tried to report a house Fire on 8th 5t. (My cell
phone battery was dead so I shouted until neighbors called the fire department.)
Fortunately, the house was vacant.
On Friday 4/14%07, my wife had volunteered to help with the Riley Hospital Radiothon in
downtown Indy at 5:30 AM so I moved my walk to about 4:00 AM, an hour earlier than usual.
Things were normal walking east from Guilford on Emerson Road until just before 4th Ave SVW
where I saw what turned out to be an unconscious man laying across the westbound lane. I
called 911 and am pleased to report that a half-dozen police officers were on the scene
within a few minutes. In my opinion, the officers handled the situation very
professionally, and the ones who spoke to me were both professional and polite.
Despite the rapid response and professionalism of the officers, the experience left me a
bit shaken. I'm canc_nuing my morning walks, 'taut -he combination of that experience and
the knowledge that the graffiti has re-appeared and remains undisturbed only a few blocks
1
away has made me a bit uneasy and more likely to observe dark areas on my route. T_'ve
felt for quite a while that the sidewalk on the south side of Main just east of Guilford
is very poorly lit. Monday morning I noticed that there: is a street ligh:? on the
southeast corner of Main & Guilford, but I don't think I've seer it lit in the three years
we've lived on Wilson Terrace Ct.
The main points of this note are to commend the police department and the fare-mentioned
actions by the city and to be sure the city is aware of the graffi4i and U-n-lit street
light. Any comments would he appreciated.
Thank you.
