Dear EVle:
I can't believe it has been almost six months since we first talked about helicopter ride wishes. 1
am velY glad that you andMr. lrsay read the Joy's House article in the Star last October, and that
you took notice of the couple who received the helicopter ride through Never Too Late.
Thanks to Jim Irsay's act of kindness, Viet Nam veteran, Joe Schepp, got to reconnect with a part
afhis past that was very meaninghll to him. As you know, Joe was a Warrant Officer in the Army
and served his country in Viet Nam in 1969-1971. He was the sole survivor out of his entire
company and he has always felt guilty about being the only one of his squadron to come back
alive. That's why he resides at the Indiana Veterans Home today, at age 52; he just can't cope in
the outside world.
On Friday, April 5th, 2002, he felt alive and vital again. He got to talk "turbines" and "knots" (air
speed) with the pilots. All of his friends, veterans from WWll. Korea, and Viet Nam were there
in the grass to wave him onward and upward as he received his hour of fabulous flight in the Colts
helicopter. Even the local day care kids.came out in droves to see the "big black bird" and watch
Joe have his wish come tme.
Speaking of pilots, Craig Ralston and Joe Brokamp were great They treated Joe and his two
guests like V1P's; they let the youngsters and oldsters peer into the cockpit and the passenger
area. In short, they were amiable ambassadors for the Colts organization. They even put on ties
for this special occasion I
Joe Schepp will never forget that magical ride for as long as he lives His heart was touched that
someone as important as Mr. Irsay would arrange for a helicopter ride just for him. Joe felt that
he mattered again, that his life still had some menning.
Thanks again to you and Mr. Irsay for making this special day happen for Joe Schepp.
Most Sincerely,
~~t4G~<:~~

Re: Petition SU-22-02 to permit use of helicopter in
Residential area
I live on the Crooked Stick Golf Course and my back yard
faces the proposed helicopter landing pad. There are four fairways
which separate my home from the Irsay home.
While I hear the take-offs and landings from time-to-time, I
find it no more intruding than all of the helicopter traffic in the area
and I have no objection to the proposed variance.
