Dear Hearing O?icer:
We are writing to express our concerns about the proposed expansion and renovations at
863 Carey Road, as described in 82A Info Packet, Docket No. PZ-2025-00068 V.
If the proposal is approved and the construction is completed, the neighborhood will be negatively
a?ected. The expansion of the existing living space and attached garage as currently designed is
excessively large and not in keeping with the character and ambiance of the neighborhood.
This immediate neighborhood is comprised of homes on Linden Lane and Hemlock Street.
Development occurred in the mid-1980s and there is an appealing consistency in house designs
and spacing. This neighborhood features many mature hardwood trees and experiences minimal
tra?ic. The welcoming appeal of this micro-neighborhood should not be allowed to be diminished.
Perhaps the needs of the requesting family can still be met with a reduced addition. The alleged
“two-car” garage has nearly the same footprint as the current house; a structure exceeding 800
square feet imparts visions of a barn-like structure that is not in keeping with existing proportions of
the other homes in the vicinity.
Houses that frame the gateway to a neighborhood set a visual tone; the requested variance will
allow an undesirable and negative change in the character of the neighborhood.
We respectfully request that the variance, in its current form, be denied.
