Resolved 2 1 Sign Permits Aliza Shalit 5/5/25 11:54 AM Changemark Aluminum cap Does this aluminum cap extend far enough to keep sign water tight and away from electrical sign components and to keep water to flow over the edge? Should the brick cornice span farther to prevent water from dripping down directly on to channel letters and sign panels? Please review and update as necessary. Center Identification Sign Specifications - Clay Terrace.pdf Responded by: Brandy Fahrbach - 5/12/25 3:13 PM We will use a cement board (hardie board) that will be attached to the metal sign frame with mechanical fasteners, then brick will be adhered to the hardie with mortar and then grouted in. All exterior signs are manufactured for damp environments and are UL listed. We will have weep holes along the bottom of the structure to allow any water that might get in, a way out. This sign will be 95+% watertight. As it relates to your questions, we will use a cement board (hardie board) that will be attached to the metal sign frame with mechanical fasteners, then brick will be adhered to the hardie with mortar and then grouted in. The aluminum panel will be under the brick so you don't see the holes. It will get painted to match the tan brick. All exteriorsigns are manufactured for damp environmentsand are UL listed. We will have weep holes along the bottom of the structure to allow any water that might get in, a way out. This sign will be 95+% water tight. Some moisture may occur, but not flooding of any nature. I hate making you update drawings again, the renderings don’t show the brick, they still show the white aluminum cap. Is it ok if I use this, I just updated your document (page 4) with the top of the same graphic in the last iteration. I can do the same with the night view so you don’t have to go back to your designer/sign co. Can you please explain where the Alum. Brick base goes? Does it go under the brick cap to prevent water seeping through the brick perforations? Keep the brick at the full width (24”) and add a color matched aluminum cap (small) to block the water and seal the top. This is a fabrication thing the sign company can answer. I am not sure. It would be nice to keep the brick detail at the full width to prevent water dripping over the panels and lettering and still seal the top but also allowing access by removing the minimal aluminum cover. Just throwing it out there. I hope you are on the mend. Regarding the below, we changed it to an aluminum cap so that it would cover and protect the letters (per the request). Sticks past 3" on both sides and if we use a brick, brick has holes in it, so that won't work. Two options, we can paint the cap to match closely to the tan brick, or we can reduce the top width back to the 21 inches per the previous revision. Please advise. Thank you! I am sorry for the delay on this. I was out on vacation and came back really sick (cough, fever, ear/sinus infections, laryngitis…worse I have had in years). The updates look great! I was wondering what happened to the cap? It used to be brick…could we go back to that detail or at least color match the base. The white cap breaks down the framing of the rest of the sign and blends too much with the “Clay Terrace” just below it. I want to approve this, so if you get me updated drawings for this, I can upload them and get this done for you.
