HomeMy WebLinkAboutDept Report CARMEL PLAN COMMISSION SPECIAL STUDIES COMMITTEEE DEPARTMENT REPORT JUL Y 1, 2008 1. Docket No. 08060004 ADLS Amend: Clay Terrace Pole Banners - Signage The applicant seeks approval for a new ground sign. The site is located at 14390 Clay Terrace Blvd. and is zoned POO. Filed by Cathy Fisher of Simon Property Group. The petitioner seeks approval for 56 banners that will hang on existing light poles in Clay Terrace. The banners will be located in two areas: Paseas between the buildings leading to the parking lots and along Clay Terrace Blvd. The banners in the Paseo will be 6 sq. ft. and will hang on both sides of the light pole, perpendicular to foot traffic walking through. The banners along the Blvd. will be 14.5 sq. ft. and will only be installed one per light pole, except fOf the two poles located close to 146th St. Please see your packet for specific placement. These banners would be changed out regularly with different advertisements for stores in Clay Terrace and for other companies not located within Clay Terrace. The Clay Ten-ace PUD does include this type of sign in its allowable sign categories. However, the Sign Ordinance does not allow for off premise signs/advertising. These advertisements for companies not within Clay Terrace would be violating the Sign Ordinance. The Department does, however, feel that these signs fall in line with the character of Clay Terrace and would be a nice addition to the streetscape. Outstanding comments/concerns: 1. The Department would like to know how many different companies would have banners installed at the same time in the Paseos and' along the Boulevard. There is concern that there may be too many different advertisements'hanging up at the same time. 2. Also, would there only be one version of a company's advertisement or multiple ads at the same time? The Dept. of Community Services recommends the Committee approve this item, after aU questions/concerns are addressed.
