The variance is desired so that we may continue to keep our pets and two specific animal groups for community service and educational/4-H purposes: 1. Foster dogs and puppies for Adopt A Labrador. A non-profit organization that adopts Labrador and Labrador mix dogs and puppies from shelters and owner that are no longer able to keep their dog, to new owners. We have these animals on average 3-4 weeks from the time we receive them to the time they are adopted to new homes. During this time we train them, provide health care and prepare them for their new homes. Ann Esrael is president ofthis organization. This activity has been ongoing from the time the home was purchased and has been ongoing within Carmel at our previous home sincc 2002. A complaint has never been filed against us during this time and we are very careful to make sure that the animals are never a disturbance to our neighbors and community. These animals are housed within our residence. They are allowed outside only on lead or in our fenced area. We also have 5 dogs of our own, two of which are from the Adopt A Labrador organization; one is from Rat Bones Rat Terrier Rescue and one from the Indianapolis Humane Society. Our two cats are both from the Indianapolis Humane Society. Our oldest daughter has shown her dog in 4-H at both the county and state levels for the last four years and her cat for 3 years. This requires her to attend workshops and train the animals on a regular basis. Jt offers both community service and educational opportunities for her enrichment. Our son will begin in 4- H this next year and plans to show his dog in 4~H. 2. Our children raise and show rabbits for 4~H and for the American Rabbit Breeders Association. We house these rabbits in our garage that is attached to our home. It is a side load garage with complete visual cover from neighboring properties. Rabbits do not make noise and so it is not an issue. All three of our children are active in this activity for ARBA and participate at both the statc and national level for the educational "team" competitions. This requires them to take tests, study all breeds of rabbits and judge rabbits. It is a very educational activity and allows our children enrichment opportunities. Our oldest daughter has been active with these animals in 4-H for 4 years at both county and state fair and has been participating in showmanship at both the county and state levels. These animals have occupied the property since April of2005. We do not have any plans to add additional structures, we work very hard to keep a clean, healthy environment and have never had a complaint. Within l~ mile of our property is an Angus steer and Llama farm. A farm housing ponies and horses is immediately adjacent to our neighborhood, approximately 300-400 yards from our property. It is our belief that the proximity 0 f these variances to our home should also be taken into consideration. u ~ '\ ;1., " I!> hi ~ ~ i- II E 136tn 51 Map View ; I 1~ I~ I~ I~ 'NW IZi w I z ~ ~ w Z D <t: OJ ( 1;; ;> il I ~__<1;_ , "C C '" ~ itNIi'I I 9'/~") S? ar-m 3nI SI NE (n 'IrMI1 I 2nd St NE .
