Subject: FW: Art Mural contest for Hotel Indigo, 08080020 ADLS
Good morning, Angie,
Attached are the photo contest rules for the art murals at Hotel Indigo in Columbus, IN, along with e-mails below which
explain how Dora Hotels worked with the Columbus Area Arts Council.
Linda Poore, GM of the Hilton Garden Inn Carmel, and Julie Garrett of Dora Hotels have met with Doreen Squire Ficara
and Cherie Pieties of the Carmel Arts Council, and Doreen and Cherie will present the contest to the full Carmel Arts
Council at its next meeting. The CAC reps have copies of the contest rules for both Columbus and Fishers and will revise
rules for the Carmel contest accordingly. They plan to run the Carmel contest the first part of next year, and will select a
board of judges.
Thank you for sharing this information with the SSC. If you have questions or need additional information, please contact
me.

Hi Doreen,
Here is info about the art mwaLs for the Hotel Indigo. Attachment has the contest rules that we used in
Colurr~us. FYgured it would be easy to adapt these to Carmel rather than starting from scratch Please Let me
know yow thougthts. We want this to be something the community is proud of and excited about. What do you
think about running the contest from now until spring? Too long of a time period? It would allow us to get
photos from fall, winter, and spring.
We are looking forward to working with you!

Subject: RE: Art Mural contest
Linda,
We partnered with the Columbus Area Arts Council to get the word out. They wrote the submission
rules that are attached. We changed a bit of the wording as we saw fit, but they really helped us out
a lot. We went through the vendor that produced the murals to see what the minimum submission
requirements would be -what resolution it needed to be, the minimum megapixels the camera
should be, etc. That was included in the contest guideline packet.
We used our focal newspaper to advertise the contest we ran. I think we did about b ads with a
Haiku on each one. They wrote some editorials and articles as well to keep the hype up. Our arts
council helped by e-blasting the contest announcement to all the other regions,in the state. I spent
about a week contacting every art department I could find a number for at all the colleges
anywhere nearby, just to let them know about the contest.
We worked backwards from when the murals needed to be installed to determine the timeline for
the contest -how long the contest period should run, how long the voting should go on, etc. Our
timeline was as follows:
Announcement for the contest - 4/2 - 4/15 -Ads in the paper to raise curiosity
b wk. contest entry period - 4/ 16 - 5/25 - We didn't see many submissions until close till the end
- mainly due to the weather since everyone wanted a nature shot
Entry Deadline - 5/25
Top photo selection process - 5/26 - b/10 -This actually turned out to be quite a bit longer
because we ran into a snag with our mural vendor
Voting period - b/11 - b/24 -Was later than this due to the issue mentioned above, but we still
kept it to two weeks.
We did all this so that we could have the murals in our hands by 8/15 and we wanted to have a 2 to
3 month cushion to have them installed (fim was shooting for a November opening).
11/6/2008
The newspaper created a voting page on their website that allowed people to vote for their favorite
photo and those votes were sent to me by email.
By far, the hardest part was working with the vendor to get the specific requirements for the art
submissions. They needed to give us that info so we didn't end up with countless submissions that
were unusable.
I know Julie ran into trouble in Fishers with the City Council (or some other government entity) thinking
that the murals were signage. They didn't want the contest to take place and she really had to go
to bat to make it happen. It wouldn't hurt to make the calls to make sure that isn't a problem in
Carmel too!
I hope that helps. Let me know if you need anything else.

The Story Behind the Brand
{A HAIKU for you}
THE STORY intrigues
Renewal PLAYS A KEY ROLE
THERE IS math INVOLVED
The open, inviting feeling of Hotel Indigo creates an atmosphere of relaxation. Hardwood
floors and area rugs in the guest rooms and public space give the feeling of freshness and
cleanliness. We bring the outdoors inside with lots of greenery, creating a sense of having
discovered an urban oasis. Hotel Indigo is fresh, pure and inviting.
The Hotel Indigo Experience -
The hotel's design is based on the universal constant called the Golden Mean, or PHI. This
mathematical ratio of 1.618 is found in nature and throughout Hotel Indigo. The nautilus shell
used in the logo and in the shape of the front desk is a great example of this perfect
proportion, a home.
Renewal
Each season, changes will occur throughout the hotel that will delight the five senses...sight,
sound, scent, taste and touch. These changes allow our guests to find something new each
time they return.
Peace -
Hotel Indigo's brand promise is to deliver an experience of high peace to offset the high pace
of travel.
