CONSTRUCTION
1. THE HEIGHT OF THE BARRIER SHOULD NOT EXCEED 36" (HIGHER BARRIERS MAY
IMPOUND VOLUMES OF WATER SUFFICIENT TO CAUSE FAILURE OF THE STRUCTURE).
2. THE FABRIC SHOULD BE PURCHASED IN A CONTINUOUS ROLL CUT TO THE LENGTH
OF THE BARRIER TO AVOID THE USE OF JOINTS. WHEN JOINTS ARE NECESSARY,
FILTER CLOTH SHOULD BE SPLICED TOGETHER ONLY AT A SUPPORT POST, WITH A
MINIMUM 6" OVERLAP, AND SECURELY SEALED.
3. POSTS SHOULD BE SPACED A MAXIMUM OF 10' APART AT THE BARRIER LOCATION
AND DRIVEN SECURELY INTO THE GROUND (MINIMUM OF 12 WHEN EXTRA STRENGTH
FABRIC IS USED WITHOUT THE WIRE SUPPORT FENCE, POST SPACING SHALL NOT
EXCEED 6'.
4. A TRENCH SHOULD BE EXCAVATED APPROXIMATELY 4" WIDE AND 4" DEEP ALONG
THE LINE OF POSTS AND UPSLOPE FROM THE BARRIER.
5. WHEN STANDARD STRENGTH FILTER FABRIC IS USED, A WIRE MESH SUPPORT FENCE
SHOULD BE FASTENED SECURELY TO THE UPSLOPE SIDE OF THE POSTS USING HEAVY
DUTY 1" WIRE STAPLES, TIE WIRES OR HOG RINGS. THE WIRE SHOULD EXTEND INTO
THE TRENCH A MINIMUM OF 2" AND SHOULD NOT EXTEND MORE THEN 36" ABOVE THE
ORIGINAL GROUND SURFACE.
6. THE STANDARD STRENGTH FILTER FABRIC SHOULD BE STAPLED OR WIRED TO THE
FENCE, AND 8" OF THE FABRIC SHOULD BE EXTENDED INTO THE TRENCH. THE FABRIC
SHOULD NOT EXTEND MORE THAN 36" ABOVE THE ORIGINAL GROUND SURFACE. FILTER
FABRIC SHOULD NOT BE STAPLED TO EXISTING TREES.
7. WHEN EXTRA STRENGTH FILTER FABRIC OR BURLAP AND CLOSER POST SPACING ARE
USED, THE WIRE MESH SUPPORT FENCE MAY BE ELIMINATED. IN SUCH A CASE, THE
FILTER FABRIC IS STAPLED OR WIRED DIRECTLY TO THE POSTS WITH ALL OTHER
PROVISIONS OF ITEM NO. 6 APPLYING.
8. THE TRENCH SHALL BE BACKFILLED AND THE SOIL COMPACTED OVER THE FILTER FABRIC.
9. FILTER BARRIERS SHALL BE REMOVED WHEN THEY HAVE SERVED THEIR USEFUL PURPOSE,
BUT NOT BEFORE THE UPSLOPE AREA HAS BEEN PERMANENTLY STABILIZED.

EROSION CONTROL MEASURES AND SCHEDULE
1, CONTRACTOR SHALL INSTALL ALL REQUIRED SILT FENCES,
SILT TRAPS, TREE PROTECTION AND INLET PROTECTION
FOR EXISTING INLETS ON PRIVATE DRIVE PRIOR TO THE
START OF ANY EARTH MOVING OR STRIPPING.
2. CONTRACTOR SHALL INSTALL A STONE CONSTRUTION
ENTRANCE OR SOME OTHER APPROVED ENTRANCE PRIOR
TO THE START OF EARTHWORK AS NECESSARY TO
PREVENT SOIL FROM BEING TRACKED OR WASHED ONTO
EXISTING ROADWAYS.
LAND ALTERATIONS WHICH STRIP THE LAND OF
VEGETATION, INCLUDING REGRADING, SHALL BE DONE
IN A WAY THAT WILL MINIMIZE EROSION, WHENEVER
POSSIBLE, NATURAL VEGETATION SHALL BE RETAINED
AND PROTECTED ALONG THE SOUTH EAST PROPERTY LINES.

5. PERMANENT AND FINAL VEGETATION OR STRUCTURAL
EROSION CONTROL DEVICES SHALL BE INSTALLED AS SOON
AS PRACTICAL UNDER THE CIRCUMSTANCES.
6. THE DURATION OF TIME WHICH AN AREA REMAINS
EXPOSED SHALL BE KEPT TO A PRACTICAL MINIMUM
DEPENDING UPON THE WEATHER. IF CONSTRUCTION
ACTIVITY IS TO CEASE FOR MORE THAN TWO WEEKS,
THE DISTURBED AREAS SHALL BE TEMPORARILY SEEDED.
7. ALL STORM SEWER INLET PROTECTION DEVICES SHALL
BE PUT IN PLACE AT THE TIME EACH INLET IS CONSTRUCTED.
8. CONTRACTOR SHALL MAINTAIN EROSION CONTROL
MEASURES AND DEVICES DURING CONSTRUCTION AND
UNTIL SILTATION OF THE STREETS AND STORM SEWERS
WILL NO LONGER OCCUR.
9. ONCE ONSITE EROSION AND SILTATION OF THE STREETS
AND STORM SEWERS WILL NO LONGER OCCUR. THE
CONTRACTOR SHALL REMOVE AND DISPOSE OF THE
TEMPORARY EROSION CONTROL DEVICES.

SEDIMENT DEPOSITS.
2. INSPECT PERIODICALLY FOR DETERIORATION OR DAMAGE FROM CONSTRUCTION
AND REPAIR IMMEDIATELY.
3. AFTER THE CONTRIBUTING DRAINAGE AREA HAS BEEN STABILIZED, REMOVE ALL
STRAW BALES AND SEDIMENT, BRING THE DISTURBED AREA TO GRADE, AND STABILIZE.
SILT FENCE MAINTENANCE REQUIREMENTS
1. INSPECT SILT FENCE AFTER EACH STORM EVENT.
2. IF FENCE FABRIC TEARS OR BECOMES INEFFECTIVE, REPLACE THE AFFECTED AREA
IMMEDIATELY.
3. REMOVE SEDIMENT WHEN IT REACHES HALF THE HEIGHT OF THE FENCE AT ITS LOWEST
POINT OR IS CAUSING THE FABRIC TO BULGE.
4. AFTER THE CONTRIBUTING DRAINAGE AREA HAS BEEN STABILIZED, REMOVE ALL
FENCE AND SEDIMENT, BRING THE DISTURBED AREA TO GRADE, AND STABILIZE.
TEMPORARY SEDIMENT TRAP MAINTENANCE REQUIREMENTS
1. INSPECT TEMPORARY SEDIMENT TRAP AFTER EACH STORM EVENT.
2. REMOVE SEDIMENT WHEN IT HAS ACCUMULATED TO ONE -HALF THE DESIGN DEPTH.
3. REPLACE SPILLWAY GRAVEL FACING IF CLOGGED.
4. INSPECT VEGETATION, AND RE -SEED IF NECESSARY.
5. PROMPTLY REPLACE ANY DISPLACED RIPRAP.
6. AFTER ALL DISTURBED AREAS HAVE BEEN STABILIZED, REMOVE THE STRUCTURE
AND SEDIMENT, BRING THE DISTURBED AREA TO GRADE, AND STABILIZE.
CURB INLET SEDIMENT BARRIER MAINTENANCE REQUIREMENTS
1. INSPECT CURB INLET SEDIMENT BARRIER PERIODICALLY AND AFTER EACH STORM
EVENT AND REPAIR IF NEEDED.
2. REMOVE SEDIMENT WITHOUT FLUSHING, WHEN IT REACHES HALF THE HEIGHT OF
THE BARRIER.
3. DEPOSIT SEDIMENT WHERE IT WILL NOT ENTER STORM DRAINS.
EROSION CONTROL BLANKET MAINTENANCE REQUIREMENTS
1. INSPECT EROSION CONTROL BLANKET PERIODICALLY AND AFTER EACH STORM EVENT.
2. IF ANY AREA SHOWS EROSION, ADD SOIL AND RE -SEED THE AREA, RE -LAY AND STAPLE
THE BLANKET.

4, PLACE BAGS IN AN ARC AROUND INLETS THAT
ARE IN A SUMP POSITION.
5. SET UP SAFETY /TRAFFIC BARRIERS TO KEEP VEHICLES
FROM HITTING BAGS, CAUSING POSSIBLE INJURY.
6. INSPECT AND REPAIR AS NEEDED, AND REMOVE ANY
ACCUMULATED SEDIMENTS AFTER EVERY STORM.
INLET PROTECTION DETAIL
1. PREPARE SOIL BEFORE INSTALLING BLANKETS, INCLUDING
APPLICATION OF LIME, FERTILIZER AND SEED.
2. BEGIN AT THE TOP OF THE CHANNEL BY ANCHORING THE
BLANKET IN A 6" DEEP x 6" WIDE TRENCH. BACKFILL AND
COMPACT THE TRENCH AFTER STAPLING
3. ROLL CENTER BLANKET IN DIRECTION OF WATER FLOW ON
BOTTOM OF CHANNEL.
4. PLACE BLANKETS END OVER END (SHINGLE STYLE) WITH
A 5" OVERLAP. USE A DOUBLE ROW OF STAGGERED STAPLES
4" APART TO SECURE BLANKETS.
