In the building of a house, the sequence of activities
is o;;e of the easiest ways to reduce €rosion
The f o l l o w i n g steps are recommended:
1. Construct a gravel drive.
2. Confine all travel to the gravel drive.
3. P Y a it r tt 1 cf the existing vege at i on ca possible.

5. After tha foundation is constructed.
rough grade and seed the lot.
6. After gutters are installed, use terporary
extensions to let water pass exposed areas.
7. After final grading seed or sod the
yard as soon as possible
8. After the yard is re- vegetated remove all
temporary erosion control measures.
Peril{ C' CultroIS:
Maintaining a strip of grass around the perimeter of a building
lot is the most cost effective method of reducing erosion. The gross
strip acts as a filter to trap sediments before they leave the lot. Other
types of erosion control will be necessary if a gross filter strip is not
maintained. A silt fence, straw bates and erosion control blankets
each have strengths and weaknesses. Consult manufacturer
recorirrendations on usage and maintenance before deciding on any particular
erosion control measure.
