Whereas, the Governor of Indiana, Mitchell E Daniels, Jr has wntten and disseminated a
statement of policy in respect to non discnminatory hinng practices, and
Whereas, as Mayor of the City of Carmel, Indiana, I wish to incorporate the spirt of the
Governor's policy into Cannel's policy, and
Therefore, as duly elected Mayor of the City of Carmel, do establish the following policy
The State of Indiana is committed to recruit, select, develop and promote employees
based on mdividual ability and job performance Our policy is to provide equal
employment opportunity to all people in all aspects of employer employee relations
without discrimination because of race, color, religion, sex, national ongm, ancestry, age,
disability, or veteran status We will comply with the spint as well as the letter of
applicable state and federal law
In addition, sexual onentation and gender identity shall not be a consideration in
decisions concerning hinng, development, advancement and termination of civilian
employees Further, we will strive to maintain a working environment free of sexual
harassment and intimidation
I charge all department directors to develop and maintain the necessary programs, record,
and reports to comply with applicable laws and regulations and with the goals and
objectives of equal employment opportunity
