HomeMy WebLinkAboutDept Report CARMEL PLAN COMMISSION SPECIAL STUDIES COMMITTEE DEPARTMENT REPORT DECEMBER 1 2009 3. Docket No. 09110030 ADLS Amend: Meridian Technology Center, Firestone Global Research and Development Lab. The applicant seeks approval for signage, exterior building modifications, and a bio- swale /rain garden. The site is located at 11799 College Dr. and is zoned B -2 /Business. Filed by Joe Scimia of Baker Daniels for Firestone Industrial Products, LLC. The applicant seeks approval for site and building modifications. These include changing several windows to overhead doors, adding several a man doors, and adding a chiller and cooling tower (if needed). Several parking spaces will be removed from the site and replaced with lawns, ponds, fountain, and land banked parking. Please refer to the petitioner's info packet for more detail. The applicant is proposing two signs for the site. This is allowed because the building has frontage on two public streets. A wall sign is proposed at 74.8 sq. ft., and 115 sq. ft. is allowed by the Sign Ordinance. This sign will be individual, internally illuminated red letters centered over the building entrance. A ground sign is also proposed at 65 sq. ft. and 6 feet tall; 75 sq. ft. and 6 feet tall is allowed by the Sign Ordinance. Petitioner, please provide the horizontal dimension of the sign; it is not shown on the rendering. The sign will be individual aluminum dimensional letters mounted to a decorative wall. They will be black in color and externally illuminated. There is a slight concern over in- ground lighting for this sign. It has been used before in other locations and businesses often come back later asking for approval for a different fixture. The Department will support these fixtures so long as the Petitioner knows of the potential maintenance issues and is okay with them. The Department sees no other issues with these signs and recommends approval. The Dept of Community Services (DOCS) recommends that the Committee votes to approve this item after all comments /concerns are addressed. (This item requires a Plan Commission Committee vote, and possibly BZA variance approval for not providing the required total number of required parking spaces.)
