Dear Mayor and City Council Members:
Carmel Community Players, Inc., a 501(c)(3) not for profit organization seeks support of $5,000
from the City of Carmel for project support of our upcoming fundraising event, "An Evening
with Ben Vereen" to be held at Carmel High School's Dale E. Graham Auditorium on Sunday,
March 7 2010. We believe this project is very much aligned with Carmel's goals to 1) present
first class artistic entertainment programs, 2) attract visitors to the community and 3) show
cultural diversity. Our event meets all three of these criteria.
Our organization, established in 1993, is Carmel's oldest community theater. We serve the
Carmel community by presenting quality community theater productions, providing volunteer
opportunities, providing educational opportunities, and helping local tourism commerce by
attracting our patrons to local retail and restaurants.
The project for which we request these specially appropriated funds will make a difference in the
Carmel Community. We are also raising the awareness of the performing arts in Carmel
through our intense marketing and public relations efforts within a 60 -mile radius of Carmel. We
are currently working on co- promotional ideas with the Indianapolis NAACP and Indianapolis
Black Expo. And because Mr. Vereen is an advocate for Diabetes health and prevention (a
disease he was diagnosed with in 2007), we are working on a partnership with the American
Diabetes Association of Indianapolis to help raise awareness of the disease and how to prevent
it. As you can see, we are truly trying to make this a community -wide, cultural event.
The project will be executed over the next 75 days at a cost of approximately $29,000. Our goal
is to generate enough profit to fund at least 50% of our 2010 -2011 CCP season and allow us to
implement additional artistic and educational programs.
We are currently working on additional grant support, monetary contributions, in -kind donations,
volunteer staff help, program advertising, etc. Our efforts could result in an additional $5,000
$15,000 support toward this event.
We openly extend this invitation to the City of Carmel to participate and help us welcome Mr.
Vereen to Carmel. We would request a decision no later than January 15, 2010.
Sincerely,
Brian Koning
