Our client requests approval to place a ground identification sign on the property in additional to its existing wall sign to enable patients visiting the medical office building to more easily identify the building. I understand that the application will be reviewed by staff and a determination made as to whether any additional information is required within ten (10) days of receipt of the application. In 2001, special use buildings less tha/ 5 acres were only allowed a 10 sq. ft. sign. They got a variance V 4 -01 to have a special use sign that was 34.4 sq. ft. instead of the 10 sq. ft. The design was approved through 7 -01 ADL Later, in 2002, the wall.sign was approved by 36 -02 ADLS Amendment. I believe an error was made then, because a variance for number of signs should have been acquired at that time to allow the wall sign in addition to the ground sign. The building hadn't changed and it was still only facing one public street. I'm not sure how a wall sign was approved. Perhaps I'm missing something...but I've thoroughly searched our records and can't seem to find the reason. So, I can't really explain why that was overlooked. But I do know that if any additional signs are requested now or in the future, a variance for number of signs will have to be acquired before any ADLS Amendment or sign permit approvals are issued.
