Statement of Purpose
Carmel, Indiana
Docket Number V- 128 -03 #03120021
1. Reason for Variance.
A. Allow larger square footage in sign space than what is allowed
by ordinance.
2. Reason why it should be awarded.
A. SignArt had worked with City Planning on the sign design; we had
originally designed raceway mounted channel letters and were told that the
sign package looked fine except that we could not use raceways. We were
told to resubmit without the raceways.
SignArt submitted the new sign package using the same size letters and design
but eliminating the raceway. Process of fabricating the sign and installation
was completed on the assumption of the previous discussion with the planning
department. When installing, we were then informed that the sign with the
"Bank" portion under "Charter One" would be over the allotted square
footage that was allowed. We were told however to proceed with the
installation and to submit for a variance to allow for the additional square
footage needed for the two line sign.
This sign could have been installed in a single line fashion (which would have
been allowed within the square footage theorem) but this would have covered
architectural features that are on the building creating an unfavorable
appearance.
Sincerely,
Brad Rhodes
