One Civic Square Carmel, .1N 46032 Dear Jim, The Museum of Miniature Houses Other Collections would appreciate being considered for a grant from the Carmel Arts Fund for $30,500. The Museum of Miniature Houses And Other Collections, Inc. is a 501 (c) 3 organization founded in 1991. It has been open to the public for seventeen years attracting over 4800 visitors per year. They have come from all 50 states and over 10 foreign countries. The Museum is unique in that there are only six museums in the United States that are dedicated to show and teach the art of scale miniatures. It is a museum of fine arts in miniature. A museum is always an asset to the community. It creates a sense of worth, of value. Because of the diversity of the Museum's collection, it appeals to all ages and both men and women. About 30% of professional miniaturists are male. Among the many professions represented are architecture, electrical engineering, woodworking, coatings, and mechanical engineering. Art forms include silver (similar to jewelry smithing), porcelain, weaving, glass blowing, sculpting, painting, fabrication, and more. The museum has successfully completed the Museum Addition Project adding approximately 850 sq. ft., one half the size of our then existing facility. It will enable us to conduct more programs (badge programs for Girl Scouts, meetings of local clubs, workshops, bus tour groups) and expand our exhibit space. It includes windows on Main Street with exhibits to attract people to stop and visit. It is a unique addition to the Arts Design District. We now need funds to mount the exhibits for this new space. This would include display stands and protective covers and installation of a display case purchased from J.T. Muesing, Inc. Estimated cost is $21,000 We also would like to add an audio tour system to enhance our visitor's experience. We have the hardware but additional funds are needed for implementation. Estimated cost $6,000 Finally we need folding tables and chairs for the expanded Girl Scout program and for planned workshops plus shelving for our new storage space. The shelving will allow us to eliminate existing rented storage space and save that expense. Estimated cost $3,500. Obviously when visitors come to Carmel to visit the Museum they eat in Carmel restaurants, stay in Carmel hotels, and visit other Carmel attractions. What benefits one of us benefits us all. Lesh 111 East Main Street Carmel, Indiana 46032 -1823 .317.575.9466 www.museumofminiatures.org The purpose of the Museum is many faceted. It educates in regard to art, scale, architecture, history and imagination. Virtually every applied art can be seen in miniature. It is something of a microcosm of the various art design establishments throughout the district. The current collection owned by the Museum is valued at well over $1.5 million. In addition to the historical value of the Museum to the community, it provides an educational value and a wholesome family venue. Teachers bring students, Scouts earn badges, and adults share a one -on -one experience with a child. The museum has also drawn local and national attention. Thousands of miniature collectors from all over the country have visited the museum and numerous articles have appeared in local and national publications, all of which bring people and dollars to the community. We very much appreciate your consideration of our request for this very important grant of $30,500. Please let me know if additional information is needed. Sincerely, i Thomas A.
