SECTION 02110 SITE CLEARING
1. Scope of Work
Clearing and grubbing shall consist of cutting, removal and
satisfactory disposal of all trees, down timber, brush,
projecting roots, stumps, rubbish, boulders, broken con-
crete, fencing (as designated), and other material on the
project site within the construction limits.
All debris9enerated from the clearing operations stated in
Item shall be removed legally disposed of off the
project site; unless a "Bury -Pit approved by the Owner and
Engineer in advance, can be utilized in an area where it
shall not be beneath building areas and /or pavement areas
and shall not be located in an area where any utility struc-
tures are located or where impoundment of surface drainage
may occur.
3. Materials shall not be disposed of by burning unless ap-
proved by the local Fire Marshall and Owner, and all re-
quired permits are obtained by the Contractor.
4. Traffic: Conduct site clearing operations to ensure minimum
interference with roads, streets, walks, and other adjacent
occupied or used facilities. Do not close or obstruct
streets, walks, or other occupied or used facilities without
permission from the appropriate governmental agency.
5. Protection of Existing Improvement: Provide protections
necessary to prevent damage to existing improvements indi-
cated to remain in place.
a. Protect improvements on adjoining properties and on
Owner's property.
b. Restore damaged improvements to their original condi-
tions, as acceptable to parties having jurisdiction.
6. Protection of Existing Trees and Vegetation: Protect exist-
ing trees and other vegetation indicated to remain in place,
against unnecessary cutting, breaking or skinning of roots,
skinning and bruising of bark, smothering of trees by stock-
piling construction materials within drip line, excess foot
or vehicular traffic, or parking of vehicles within drip
line. Provide temporary fencing or approved guarding meth-
ods to protect trees and vegetation to be left standing.
SECTION 02210 STRIPPING
1. The Contractor shall remove all topsoil in the areas to be
occupied by roads, parking areas, walks, buildings and
designated future building fill areas. Topsoil shall be
removed to a depth of six (6) inches or deeper, if neces-
sary, to remove organic vegetative matter where required.
See Soils Report for approximate topsoil thickness. If site
has been recently stripped, the topsoil shall be removed to
depth required to remove all roots as required by Soils
Engineer, Street Inspector, Engineer and Owner.
2. Topsoil shall be kept separated from suitable fill materials

3. Topsoil shall be stored at a location where it does not
interfere with construction operations.
4. Topsoil shall be reasonably free from subsoil debris,
stones, ect.
5. Topsoil shall be spread over all areas to receive seeding
and landscaping. Landscaped islands and planting areas
shall have a minimum of twelve (12) inches of topsoil and
seeded or sodded areas shall have a minimum of six (6)
inches of topsoil spread.
6. Excess topsoil to be stockpiled in the areas designated on
the Grading Plan, or removed from the site if directed by
the Owner or Engineer.

surface water drainage swales shown on the plans are uni-
formly finished graded to the designated minimum slopes and
elevations.
6. Settling and Ponding: Where settling and ponding is meas-
urable or observable at excavated areas during the general
project warranty period, remove surface (pavement, lawn or
other finish), add backfill material, compact, and replace
surface treatment. Restore appearance, quality, and condi-
tion of surface or finish to match adjacent work, and elimi-
nate evidence of restoration.
7. Removal from Owner's Property: Remove waste materials,
including surplus excavated material, unacceptable excavated
material, trash and debris, topsoil, and jegal ly dispose of
it off project site unless otherwise directed. The location
of dump and length of haul shall be the Contractor's respon-
sibility.
SECTION 02510 STREETS AND PARKING LOTS
1. Scope of Work
The work required under this section includes all concrete
and bituminous paving and related items necessary to com-
plete the work indicated on Plans and described in the
Specifications, including but not limited to:
All streets, parking areas in Contract limits
Curbs and Gutters
Sidewalks
Signs, concrete slabs and exterior steps
2. Construction within Right -of -Way: All street construction
within the lines of dedicated right -of -way shall be in
accordance with the requirements of the Indiana Department
of Transportation (INDOT), latest revision, and the City of
Carmel.
3. Grading: Perform any necessary grading to that accomplished
in accordance with SECTION 02220 EARTHWORK, to bring sub
grades, after final compaction, to the required grades and
cross sections for site improvement.
4. Preparation of Subgrade: Contractor shall perform all top
soil stripping operations for street areas pursuant to SEC-
TION 02210 STRIPPING and shall perform proof rolling and
earthwork construction operations pursuant to SECTION 02220
EARTHWORK and to the requirements stated in section 207 of
INDOT, per latest revision.
5. Compaction of Subgrade: All roadway areas (including the
areas beneath the curbs), regardless of whether they are
located in Cut or Fill, shell have the first six (6) inches
below the final subgrar: elevation compacted to at least
100% of the maximum dry density as determined by the provi-
sions of AASHTO T -99. Water shall be prevented from stand-
ing on the compacted subgrade.
6. Acceptance of Subgrade: The Earthwork Contractor shall
coordinate the preparation b subgrade with the appropriate
governmental agency (Street Inspector), the Owner, and the
Paving Contractor. Subgrade shall be inspected and tested by
the Street Inspector prior to pavement construction. The
condition of the subgrade as finally and acceptably prepared
shall prevail at the t;iTe any paving material is placed
thereon.
Prepared subgrade damaged for any reason prior to accept
once by the Street Inspector and Paving Contractor shall be
repaired by the Earthwork Contractor at no additional cost
to Owner. Approved subgrade shall be paved with the initial
H.A.C. base course one day after acceptance by the Street
Inspector. Approved subgrade damaged for any reason after
acceptance by the Street Inspector and the Paving Contractor
shall be repaired by the Paving Contractor at no additional
cost to Owner.
Should the Paving Contractor refuse acceptance of the sub-
grade, he shall notify the Earthwork Contractor and the
Owner of the deficiencies. Should the Paving Contractor
fail to notify the Earthwork Contractor and the Owner of any
deficiencies and /or proceed in the placing of the H.A.C.
base course, said actions shall constitute acceptance of
subgrade.
The Owner shall have the authority to adjust the construc-
tion schedules of the Earthwork Contractor and the Paving
Contractor as is required to net the above requirements.
7. Utility Structures: Earthwork Contractor shall check for
correct elevation of all manhole covers, valve boxes and
similar structures located within areas to be paved, and
make, or have made, any necessary adjustments in structures.
Paving Contractor shall verify the above prior to placing
pavement materials. Adjustments to utility structures
required after placement of paving materials shall be the
responsibility of Paving Contractor.
8. Bituminous Pavement: All materials and construction methods
proposed for the construction of bituminous pavements shall
comply with section 403 of INDOT, per latest revision. The
front face of curbs shall be tack coated where H.A.0 pave-
ment will be in contact. Unless specific approval is grant-
ed, paving will not be permitted during unfavorable weather
or when the temperature is 40 degrees F. and falling.
9. Tack and Prime Coats: If the previously constructed course
is granular and a prime coat is required, priming shall
conform with applicable provisions of section 408 of INDOT,
per latest revision.
The tack coat on H.A.0 base or binder shall conform with
requirements set out in section 409 of INDOT, per latest
revision.
10. Compacted Aggregate Base Course: shall conform with material
and construction method requirements set out in section 303
of INDOT, per latest revision. The thickness shown on the
Plans is the minimum thickness of the fully compacted aggre-
gate base course. Compaction shall be accomplished by
rolling with a smooth wheeled roller weighing 8 to 10 tons.
Compact to 100 of maximum dry density in accordance with
INDOT section 304.05, latest revision. Along curbs, head-
ers, and walls and at all places not accessible to the
roller, the aggregate material shall be tamped with mechani-
cal tampers or with approved hand tampers.
and water. Minimum cement content shall be 6 bags per
cubic yard of concrete and maximum water content shall be
5.5 U.S. gallons per sack of cement, including moisture in
the aggregate. Slump for normal weight concrete shall be a
maximum of 4 inches and a minimum of 2 inches. The slump of
machine placed concrete shall be no less than 1 -1/4 inches
nor more than 3 inches. Standard test ASTM C -143 shall be
used to measure slump. Compressive strength of concrete at
28 days shall be 4000 psi. All exterior concrete shall have
air entrainment of 5% to 8% by volume per ASTM C -260.
Retempering of delivered concrete will not be allowed.
Concrete shall be composed of:
A. Portland Cement: Conforming to ASTM C -150, Type IA or

B. Aggregates: Conforming to ASTM C-33.
C. Water: Shall be clear and free from injurious amounts
of oils, acids, alkalies, organic materials or other
deleterious substances.
13. Welded Steel Wire Fabric: Where required for concrete
reinforcement shall conform to ASTM A185.
14. Premoulded Joint Filler: Shall be of non extruding type
meeting ASTM D -544, except that premoulded joint filler used
in concrete walk construction may be either non extruding or
resilient.
15. Placing Concrete:
A. Subgrade: Place concrete only on a moist, compacted
subgrade or base free from loose material. Place no
concrete on a muddy or frozen subgrade. Refer to SEC-
TION 02220 EARTHWORK and requirements pertaining to
subgrade described within this Section.
B. Forms: All forms shall be free from warp, tight enough
to prevent leakage and substantial enough to maintain
their shape and position without springing or settling
when concrete is placed. Forms shall be clean and
smooth immediately before concreting.
C. Placing Concrete: Concrete shall be deposited so as to
require as little rehandling as practicable. When
concrete is to be placed at an atmospheric temperature
of 35 degrees F. or less, section 702.10 of INDOT,
latest edition shall be followed.
D. Curing Concrete: Except as otherwise specified, cure
all concrete by one of the methods described in section
501. 17 of INDOT, latest edition.
16. Concrete Curb and Gutter: shall conform to requirements set
forth in Section 605 of INDOT, latest edition.
A. Expansion Joints: Shall be 1/2 in thick premoulded at
ends of all returns and at a maximum spacing of 100
feet.
B. Contraction Joints: Unless otherwise provided, cont-
raction joints shall be sawed joints spaced 20 feet on
center.
C. Finish: Tamp and screed concrete as soon as placed,
and fill any honey combed voids. Finish square corners
to 1/4 inch radius and other corners to radii shown.
D. Curing: Concrete curbs shall be cured with white
membrane compound according to section 501.17(e) of
INDOT, latest edition.
17. Concrete Walks and Exterior Steps: shall conform to section
604 of INDOT, latest revision.
A. Slopes: Provide 1/4 inch per foot minimum cross slope.
Make adjustments in slopes at walk intersections as
necessary to provide proper drainage.
B. Dimensions: Walks and steps shall be one course con-
struction and of widths and details shown on the plans.
C. Finish: Screed concrete and trowel with a steel trowel
to a hard dense surface after surface water has disap-
peared. Apply medium broom finish and scribe control
joints at 5 foot spacing. Provide 1/2 inch expansion
joints where sidewalks intersect, and at a maximum
spacing of 48 feet between expansions joints.
D. Wheel chair ramps shall be provided as detailed.
18. Street and Other Signs: Street name and other signs shall
be furnished at the Developer's expense and installed prior
to the release of the performance bond. The signs shall be
installed on one post at each street intersection at an
appropriate spot in the northeast corner wherever possible.
SECTION 02710 UTILITIES
1. Utilities: It shall be the responsibility of each Contrac-
tor to verify all existing utilities and conditions pertain-
ing to his phase of work. It shall also be the Contractor's
responsibility to contact the owners of the various utili-
ties before work is started. The Contractor shall notify in
writing the owners or the Engineer of any changes, errors or
omissions found on these plans or in the field before work
is started or resumed.
2. If active utilities are encountered by not shown on the
drawings, the Engineer and utility representative shall be
advised before work is continued.
3. Inactive and abandoned utilities encountered in excavq izg
and grading operations shall be reported _to- t-he --Eng and
utility company. They shall be removed, plugged or capped
as directed by the utility company and Engineer.
4. Rules and regulations governing the respective utilities
shall be observed in executing all work under this section.
5. Granular backfill shall be required for all crossings under
pavement areas except for utilities which are bored or
pushed under street.
6. Conduit shall be required for all crossings under pavement
areas. Contractor shall coordinate with each respective
utility for their location and installation. Conduit shall
be 4" PVC Schedule 40 or approved equal.

2. All water lines shall be in accordance with the
Standards and Specifications of the Indiana State
Board of Health. Sterilization of water mains shall
be in accordance with the Indiana State Board of
Health for procedures and time of treatment.
3. Pressure tests for the water system shall be done in
accordance with manufacturer's recommendations.
4. Granular backfill shall be required for entire trench
if any portion of trench is within 5 feet from edge
of pavement in public right -of -way.

6. Pipe shall conform to ANSI A -21.51 or AWWA C -151
and at a minimum shall be Pressure Class 350.
7. Fittings for ductile cast iron pressure pipe shall be
ductile cast iron and conform to ANSI A -21.10 or AWWA
C -110 and shall have a thickness class of 53.
8. Fittings for 4 -inch to 12-inch may conform to ANSI
A -21.3 or AWWA C -153.
9. Where private water lines for potable water
lines are shown on the contract plans, they
shall be type "C" copper pipe for sizes up
to 2 1/2 Copper water service lines and
fittings shall conform to A. 5. T. M. B-88.
10. Thrust blocks shall be installed in
accordance with the details contained
within the plans.
Felt material not to exceed%inch thick
shall be placed between pipes and concrete
thrust blocks.
3. A. All storm sewer pipe shall be reinforced concrete pipe
conforming to ASTM Designation C -76 Class III, unless
otherwise noted, in accordance with Section 906 of
INDOT. Joints shall conform to ASTM C -433, latest
revision.
B. Alternate pipe material may be (aluminum coated) steel,
Type II material conforming to the current AASHTO M36
for pipe 18 inches and smaller with a helical corruga-
tion of 2 -2/3" x 1/2" and AASHTO M196 for pipe 21
inches and larger with a helical HyFlo corrugation of
3/4" x 3/4" x 7 -1/2
All CMP pipe shall meet the following minimum gages
unless specified otherwise:
12 inch through 36 inch shall be 16 gage
42 inch through 48 inch shall be 14 gage
54 inch through 84 inch shall be 12 gage
All sewers shall be installed so as not to exceed the
maximum allowable pipe strength per ASTM and manufac-
turer's requirements. If additional pipe strength is
required for the probable earth live load condition,
the Contractor shall use a higher strength or bedding
method to satisfy the conditions.
C. Where shown on plan, use high density Polyethylene
(HDPE) Corrugated pipe with smooth interior (N
0.012). Pipe and fittings which meet or exceed the
requirements of Type III, Category 4 or 5, Grade P33 or
P34, Class C bedding per ASTM D1248. Joints shall be
split corrugated couplings at least 7 corrugations wide
and exceeding the soil tightness requirements of AASHTO
standard specifications for Highway Bridges, Section 23
(2.23.3). Backfill and installation shall comply with
manufacturer's recommendations.
4. Subdrainage system shall be installed as shown on Plans and
be of pipes designated in Section 906 of INDOT as follows:
Pipes to be installed for subsurface drainage only may be
one of the following:
A. Perforated corrugated drainage pipe in accordance with
AASHTO M252 or AASHTO M294. PVC shall have minimum
cell classification conforming to requirement of
12454 -C ASTM D -1784.
B. Concrete drain tile in accordance with AASHTO M178.
C. Vitrified clay tile in accordance with AASHTO M179.
Where pipe is to be used for a collector of other subsurface
laterals and /or sump pumps and installed with provisions for
cleaning, it may be one of the following:
A. ABS or PVC composite in accordance with ASTM 0 -2680.
B. PVC in accordance with ASTM D -3034 SDR -35.
C. PVC corrugated with smooth interior in accordance 4rh
ASTM F949.
5. Backfill around all structures and cuts under paved areas
and within five (5) feet of pavement edges with granular
material in accordance with Section 211 of INDOT.
6. See standard detail sheet for construction dimensions of
storm structures. Manholes, inlets and catch basins shall
be in accordance w i t h Section 720 of INDOT. Precast .�.r.
crete and steel for manholes and inlets shall be in j:,cr
once with ASTM C -478, latest revision. Steps shall be
ductile iron or aluminum integrally cast into each catch
basin sidewalls.
7. The Contractor shall provide a minimum of one (1) foot of
earth cover over all storm sewers. If pipe is to have
construction traffic over it, Contractor shall provide a
minimum temporary earth cover of four (4) feet, until or.-
struction period is complete. After completion of opera-
tions requiring construction traffic over pipe, Contractor
shall remove the temporary earth cover and grade the earth
to elevations shown on the Plans.
8. Rip rap particles shall be a minimum of 6" and a maximum of
17" in size and shall be placed a minimum of 18" in depth.
Dimensions for rip-rap on this plan are for estimating
purposes only. Actual best placement of rip -rap shall be
determined by field conditions and shall be in accordance
with Section 616 of INDOT.
9. All drainage pipe and ditch outfalls to receiving streams
shall be constructed in accordance with drawings, subject
however, to any modification required by Engineer at the
time of installation is completed and to any adjustments
needed for field conditions not adequately anticipated by
the design drawings.
10. Castings shall be as shown on detail sheet for manufacturer,
type and number. All castings shall be Neenah or East
Jordan approved equal. Castings shall be gray iron meeting
ASTM A -48, latest revision.
11. Install gaskets in accordance with manufacturer's recommen-
dations for use of lubricants, cements and other special
installation requirements.
12. Place plugs in ends of incomplete piping at end of work day
or whenever work stops, and at stubs for future development.
13. Carry depth of trenches for piping to establish indicated
flow lines and invert elevations. Notch under pipe bells
where applicable to provide solid bearing for entire body of
pipe.
14. Trenching: Lay all pipe in open trenches, except when the
local authority gives written permission for tunneling.
Open the trench sufficiently ahead of pipe laying to reveal
any obstructions. The width of the trench shall be the
outside pipe diameter plus nine (9) inches each side for 12
inches above the pipe or 0.3 x 0.0., whichever is greater.
Sheet and brace trench as necessary to protect workmen and
adjacent structures. All trenching is to comply with Occu-
pational Safety and Health Administration standards. Con-
tractor shall employ a Registered Professional Engineer to
design trench safety systems for all trenches over twenty
(20) feet in depth. Keep trenches free from water while
construction is in progress. Under no circumstances lay
pipe or appurtenances in standing water. Conduct the dis-
charge from trench dewatering to drains or natural drainage
channels.
17. Manhole Inverts: Construct manhole flow channels of con-
crete, sewer pipe or brick, smoothly finished and of semi-
circular section conforming to the inside diameter of the
connecting sewers. Make changes in size or grade gradually
and changes in direction by true curves. Provide such
channels for all connecting sewers at each manhole.
SECTION 2730 SANITARY SEWER CONSTRUCTION
A. Current City of Carmel Utilities
District, County and State specifications shall
prevail as to materials and methods of
construction.
B. The Contractor shall be responsible for
obtaining or verifying all permits for all or
portions of this project prior to starting
construction. Contractor shall notify the
Carmel Department of Public Works 48 hours
prior to commencement of sanitary construction.
C. Sanitary sewers shall be installed in accordance
with the Indiana Department of Environmental
Management requirements.
D. Sanitary sewers shown on the construction plans
shall be SDR -35 PVC Pipe, where applicable, in accordance
with A. S. T.M. D-3034, with minimum ce l l classification
of 12454 (6" 15" pipe and fitting).
E. All joint systems shall be elastometric seal (gasket)
type. Seals shall conform to ASTM F -477 requirements
Joint materials and testing shall conform to ASTM D -3212
requirements.
F. Water and sewer line crossings and separations
shall be in accordance with Ten States Standards
and local codes.
1. Where water lines and sewer lines cross and
the water line cannot be placed above the
sewer line a minimum of 18" with a minimum
cover of 48 the sewer line shall be
constructed of waterworks grade cast iron
pipe with mechanical joints.
2. Where water lines and sanitary sewer lines
run p a r a l l e l with one another, a minimum of
10' horizontal separation shall be
maintained.
G. No roof drains, footing drains, and /or surface
water drains may be connected to the sanitary
sewer system including a temporary connection
during construction.
H. The Contractor shall provide the Engineer with
"as- built" locations and information for all
sanitary sewer laterals within ten days after
completion.
I. The Contractor shall remove by pumping or other
suitable methods any water which may accumulate
in trenches.
J. The Contractor shall be responsible for all tests
for leakage, infiltration and deflection as
established by the City of Carmel and the
Indiana Department of Env i ronrrenta I Management.
Any portions not passing said tests for acceptance
shall be repaired or replaced at the Contractor's
expense, including re- excavation and backfill.
All testing shall be observed by a Professional
Engineer for certification within forty days after
completion.

Deflection tests shall be performed on all flexible
pipe. The test shall be conducted after the final
backfill has been in place at least 30 days to
permit stabilization of the soil -pipe system
No pipe shall exceed a deflection of 5 percent. If
deflection exceeds 5 percent, replacement or
correction shall be accomplished in accordance
with requirements in the approved specfications.
The rigid ball or mandrel used for the deflection test
shall have a diameter no less than 95 percent of the
base inside diameter or average inside diameter of
the pipe depending on which is specified in the ASTM
Specification, including the appendix, to which the
pipe is manufactured. The pipe shall be measured in
compliance with ASTM D 2122 Standard Test Method
of Determining Dimensions of Thermoplastic Pipe and
Fittings. The test shall be performed without mechanical
pulling devices.

Pipe shall be laid in open trenches, except when
conditions require and the appropriate approving
agencies give written permission for tunneling
or jacking of pipe.
Trench shall be opened sufficiently ahead of
pipe laying to reveal obstructions, and shall be
properly protected and/or barricaded when left
unattended
Contractor shall be responsible for sheeting and
bracing of trenches as necessary to protect
workmen and adjacent structures. All trenching
shall be done in accordance with 0. S. H. A.
standards to protect workmen.
Granular backfill shall be required for entire
trench if any portion of trench is within 5 feet
from edge of pavement.
All service corrections shall be made using a wye
and a bend. Tees shall be used only as directed
by the City of Carmel. Tees and wyes shall be die
cast or factory fabricated. All service pipe shall
be SDR 35.
P. Corrections to existing piping shall be mode using
flexible repair couplings by Fernco or equal.

SECTION 01340 SHOP DRAWINGS AND SAMPLES
1. Submit all drawings, diagrams, illustrations, schedules,
performance charts, instructions, specifications and other
project data illustrating portions of the work as required
by the specification section. Such submittals, whether or
not referred to as shop drawings herein prescribed. Unless
otherwise noted in the specification sections, submit a
minimum of five (5) sets of shop drawing to Engineer. Two
(2) sets will be returned to Contractor unless otherwise
requested.
2. Do not commence any portion of the work requiring a shop
drawing or sample submittal until the submittal has been
approved as prescribed herein. All such portions of the
work shall be in accordance with approved shop drawings or
samples.
4. Perform earthwork grading and finishing operations to estab-
lish required elevations and dimensions as designated on the
Plans.
5. Place topsoil to minimum depths indicated on the planting
plans in each respective area. Place topsoil in layers not
to exceed six (6) inches following light compaction and
develop smooth planting surfaces. Subgrade shall be scari-
fied to 3" to 6 in depth before topsoil is spread. Remove
all vegetation, stones, roots and rubbish from topsoil and
rake to even surface. Carefully spread topsoil to meet
walks, curbs, paving, adjacent properties and be free of low
spots. Contractor shall be responsible for insuring that
11. Pavements built by stage construction, that is pavements
used to carry traffic before the full pavement structure is
in place, will have each stage used by traffic inspected by
the Street Inspector for distressed areas before the next
stage is started. Distressed areas will be repaired to the
satisfaction of the Street Inspector before an additional
stage is constructed.
12. Concrete: Plain concrete pavements shall be constructed in
accordance with section 501 of INDOT, latest revision.
Concrete shall be ready -mixed concrete and shall be a mix of
proportioned fine and coarse aggregates with Portland cement
L Existing storm sewers, sanitary sewers, water mains, gas
mains, electric ducts, telephone ducts, steam mains and
other underground structures hove been shown on the plans
according to the best available information. The exact
location and protection of these facilities and structures,
their support and maintenance in operation during construc-
tion (in cooperation with the proper authorities of the
utility involved), is the express responsibility of the
Contractor in the performance of his Contract and in the
preparation of his bid.
SECTION 2715 WATER LINE SPECIFICATIONS
SECTION 02720 STORM SEWERS
1. Scope of Work
The work under this section includes all storm sewers, storm
sewer inlets, and related items including excavating and
backfilling, necessary to complete the work shown on the
Plans.
2. Standard Specifications of the City of Carmel and the
Indiana Department of Highways Standard Specifications (INDOT),
latest edition, shall apply for all work and materials.
Pipe shall be installed in accordance with Section 715 of INDOT.
All trench excavations deeper than five (5) feet are covered
by OSHA Standard 29CIR 1926 Subpart P.
15. All pipes on steep slopes (over 20 shall have concrete
anchors at maximum 40 feet intervals as shown on detail.
16. Backfilling: For a depth of at least 12 inches above the
top of the pipe, backfill with earth or granular material
free from large stones, rock fragments, roots or sod. Tamp
this backfill thoroughly, taking care not to disturb the
pipe. For the remaining trench depth, backfill with earth
or granular material which may contain stones or rocks not
larger than four (4) inches. Backfill under walks, parking
areas, driveways and streets shall be granular material only
and shall be thoroughly compacted by approved methods to the
density specified. Trenches parallel to and within five (5)
feet of paved roadways shall be constructed the same. All
granular backfill shall be compacted to 95% Standard Proctor
maximum dry density.
