General Watering Instructions
Landscape
New landscapes require water every 3 7 days. Check the plants regularly to see if they require additional water. Feel
the soil in the root ball, not just the mulch or surrounding soil. If the root ball is cool and moist, don't water. Jf the
root ball is warm and dry or hard, additional water is needed.
The best way to water is by placing your hose at the base of the plant and letting the water slowly trickle out. Avoid
watering leaves during the heat of the day due to possible leaf burn.
General Water Requirements
Annual Flowers Every other day to keep ground moist but not soaked
Small Shrubs 3 4 minutes, 2 3 times per week
Large Shrubs, Trees up to 1' /i" Diameter 20 minutes, 1 2 times per week
1'/z" 2' /z Diameter trees, 6 —12" Evergreens 60 minutes, 1 2 times per week
3" Diameter Trees, Larger Evergreen Trees 90 minutes, 1 2 times per week
We recommend keeping 2 3" of mulch around your landscape to help retain moisture and keep plants cooler.
Seeded Lawn Areas
Water seed areas twice dally for 10 —15 minutes (preferably in the morning and evening) for 2 to 3 weeks.�Keep soil
moist at all times, but not soaked. Too much water may cause erosion of seed. Remember that water is imperative.for
_the germination of grass,seed_and activating the starter fertilizer installed within the grass We recommend that
you overseed your newly seeded areas in the spring and fall for the first year or two to help your lawn thicken up.
Sodded Lawn Areas
Sod should be watered thoroughly at least once a day for the first several weeks. Check sod to ensure it is thoroughly
watered by lifting up a piece of sod, the soil below should be completely saturated.
Do not mow sod for at least 14 days. Although the grass may be growing, the roots have not completely taken to the
soil below. When you are able to pull up on the sod and there is resistance to lifting it, it should be safe to mow.
*These watering guidelines are average requirements. Extremely wet or dry conditions will require you to make
adjustments accordingly.
