Jack Schonely's 'Apprehending Fleeing Suspects' is an in -depth look at perimeter
containment and suspect tactics. Topics that will be discussed are current trends being
used by suspects as they attempt to evade law enforcement on foot, hiding locations, search
techniques, and tactics law enforcement personnel can use to contain and capture criminals
on the run. Videos and several officer down debriefs will be used to demonstrate the
importance of staying a step ahead of experienced street smart criminals.
Jack H. Schonely has been in law enforcement for the past 29 years. He has been a
member of the Los Angeles Police Department since 1983 and is currently assigned to the
Air Support Division as a pilot. He has worked patrol, vice, gangs, and was a K -9 handler for
5 years prior to going to Air Support as a Tactical Flight Officer. Jack also has a B.S. in
Criminal Justice from Kutztown University in Pennsylvania.
Jack is a nationally recognized expert in the area of suspect tactics,
perimeter containment, search techniques, and foot pursuits. He has
authored numerous articles on this topic and others for Vertical 911, Police
Magazine, Police K -9 Magazine, and Vertical Magazine. He is also the
author of the book 'Apprehending Fleeing Suspects; Suspect Tactics and
Perimeter Containment'. He lectures on this topic to law enforcement
personnel across North America.
