Floor-Ceiling Assembly — The 1 hr fire-rated solid or trussed lumber joist floor-ceiling assembly shall be constructed of the materials and in the manner specified in the individual L500 Series Floor-Ceiling Designs in the UL Fire Resistance Directory. The general construction features of the floor-ceiling assembly are summarized below: A. Flooring System — Lumber or plywood subfloor with finish floor of lumber, plywood or Floor Topping Mixture* as specified in the individual Floor-Ceiling Design. Max diam of opening shall be 5 in. B. Wood Joist* — Nom 10 in. deep (or deeper) lumber, steel or combination lumber and steel joists, trusses or Structural Wood Members* with bridging as required and with ends firestopped. C. Gypsum Board* — Nom 5/8 in. thick, 4 ft wide as specified in the individual Floor-Ceiling Design. 2. Closet Flange — Acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) or polyvinyl chloride (PVC) closet stub sized to accommodate drain pipe. Closet flange installed over drain piping within floor opening with flange secured to plywood floor with steel screws. Diam of circular opening through flooring (Item 1A) to be max ½ in. larger than outside diam of closet flange. 3. Drain Piping — Nom 4 in. diam (on smaller) Schedule 40 acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) or polyvinyl chloride (PVC) drain pipe and 90 degree elbow for use in vented (drain, waste or vent) piping systems. Pipe installed concentrically within firestop system. 4. Fill, Void or Cavity Materials*—Sealant — Min 3/4 in. thickness of fill material applied within the annulus, flush with the bottom surface of floor. Chase W all — The through penetrants shall be routed through 1 fire-rated single, double or staggered wood stud/gypsum wallboard chase wall constructed of the m aterials and in the m anner specified in the individual U300 Series Wall and Partition Designs in the UL Fire Resistance Directory and shall include the following construction features: A. Studs — Nom 2 by 6 in. lumber studs. B. Sole Plate — Nom 2 by 6 in. lumber plates. Max diam of floor opening is 5-1/2 in. C. Top Plate — The double top plate shall consist of two nom 2 by 6 in. lumber plates. Max diam of opening is 5-1/2 in. D. Gypsum Board* — Thickness, type, number of layers and fasteners shall be as specified in individual Wall and Partition D esign. 3. Nonmetallic Penetrants — One nonmetallic pipe to be installed either concentrically or eccentrically w ithin the firestop system. The annular space between p ipe and periphery of opening shall be continuous contact, 0 in. (point contact) to max ¼ in. or 0 in. (point contact) to max 1 in. (See Item 4). P ipe to be rigidly supported on both sides of the floor-ceiling assembly. The following types and sizes of nonmetallic penetrants may be used: A. Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) Pipe — Nom 4 in. d iam (or smaller) Schedule 40 cellular or solid core PVC pipe for use in closed (process or supply) or vented (drain, w aste or vent) p iping systems. B. Chlorinated Polyvinyl Chloride (CPVC) Pipe — Nom 4 in. diam (or smaller) SDR13.5 CPVC pipe for used in closed (process or supply) p iping systems. C. Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS) Pipe — Nom 4 in. d iam (or smaller) Schedule 40 cellular or solid core ABS pipe for use in closed (process or supply) or vented (drain, waste or vent) piping systems. 4. Fill, Void or Cavity M aterial* -Sealant — Min 1/2 in. thickness of fill material applied around through penetrant within the annulus on top surface of floor or sole plate of chase wall. M in 1/2 in. thickness of fill material applied w ithin the annulus of the top plate flush with the bottom surface of the lower top plate. Min 1/2 in. bead of fill material applied at the penetrant/plate interfaces at point contact locations on on both sides of assembly. W hen penetrants are installed at continuous contact or min 0 in. to max ¼ in. annular spaces, a ½ in. bead of sealant shall be applied at the penetrant/plate interfaces and over ¼ in. annular space on the bottom side of the plywood subfloor and lower top p late. Through Penetrant — One nonmetallic pipe, conduit or tubing installed either concentrically or eccentrically within the firestop system. The annular space between pipe and periphery of opening shall be min of 0 in. (point contact) to a max 5/8 in. .(16 mm). P ipe to be rigidly supported on both sides of w all assembly. The following types and s izes of nonmetallic p ipes may be used: A. Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) Pipe — N om 2 in. (51 mm) d iam (or smaller) cellular or solid core Schedule 40 (or heavier) p ipe for use in closed (process or supply) p iping sys tems. B. Chlorinated Polyvinyl Chloride (CPVC) — N om 2 in. Chase W all — The through-penetrant (Item 3) shall be routed through a 1 hr fire-rated s ingle, double or staggered w ood stud/gypsum w allboard chase w all constructed of the m aterials and in the manner specified in the individual U 300 Series W all and Partition D esigns in the UL F ire R esistance D irectory and shall include the follow ing construction features: A. The annular space between the p ipe and the periphery of the opening shall be min 0 in. (point contact) to m ax 1/2 in. P ipe may be installed w ith continuous point contact. Wall A ssembly — The 1 or 2 hr fire-rated gypsum wallboard/stud w all assembly shall be constructed of the materials and in the manner described in the individual U300 or U400 Series W all or Partition D esign in the UL Fire R esistance D irectory and shall include the follow ing construction features: A. Studs — Wall framing may consist of either w ood studs or steel channel studs. W ood studs to consist of nom 2 by 4 in. (51 by 102 mm) lumber spaced 16 in. (406 mm) OC. Steel studs to be m in 3-5/8 3-1/2 in. (89 mm) wide and spaced m ax 24 in. (610 mm) OC. W hen steel studs are used and the d iam of opening exceeds the width of stud cavity, the opening shall be framed on all sides using lengths of steel stud installed between the vertical studs and screw-attached to the steel studs at each end. The framed opening in the w all shall be 4 to 6 in. (102 to 152 mm) w ider and 4 to 6 in. (102 to 152 mm) higher than the diam of the penetrating item such that, when the penetrating item is installed in the opening, a 2 to 3 in. (51 to 76 mm) clearance is present between the penetrating item and the framing on all four sides. B. Gypsum B oard* — 5/8 in. (16 mm) thick, 4 ft (1.22 m ) w ide w ith square or tapered edges. The gypsum board type, thickness, number of layers, fastener type and sheet orientation shall be as specified in the individual U300 or U400 Series Design in the UL Fire Resistance D irectory. M ax diam of opening is 26 in. (660 mm) for steel stud w alls. Max diam of opening is 14-1/2 in. (368 mm) for wood stud w alls. The hourly F Rating of the firestop system is equal to the hourly fire rating of the wall assembly in which it is installed. 2. Through Penetrant — One metallic p ipe, conduit or tubing to be installed either concentrically or eccentrically w ithin the firestop system. Pipe, conduit or tubing may be installed at an angle not greater than 45 degrees from perpendicular. The annular space between p ipe, conduit or tubing and periphery of opening shall be min 0 in. (0 mm, point contact) to max 2 in. (51 mm). Pipe, conduit or tubing to be rigidly supported on both sides of w all assembly. The following types and sizes of m etallic p ipes, conduits or tubing may be used: A. Steel P ipe — Nom 24 in. (610 mm) d iam (or smaller) Schedule 10 (or heavier) steel p ipe. B. Iron Pipe — Nom 24 in. (610 mm) d iam (or smaller) cast or ductile iron pipe. C. Conduit — Nom 4 in. (102 mm) d iam (or smaller) steel electrical m etallic tubing, nom 6 in. (152 mm) diam (or smaller) steel conduit or nom 1 in. (25 mm) diam (or smaller) flexible steel conduit. D. Copper Tubing — Nom 6 in. (152 mm) d iam (or smaller) Type L (or heavier) copper tubing. E. Copper Pipe — Nom 6 in. (152 mm) diam (or smaller) Regular (or heavier) copper p ipe. 3. Fill, Void or Cavity M aterial* — Sealant — Min 5/8 in. (16 mm) thickness of fill material applied w ithin annulus, flush with both surfaces of wall. At the point contact location between through penetrant and gypsum gypsum board, a min 3/8 in. (10 mm) diam bead of fill material shall be applied at the gypsum board/through penetrant interface on both surfaces of wall.
