Landscape Comments
Tingley, Connie S From: Mindham, Daren Sent: Friday, June 03, 2011 10:44 AM To: Druley, Elizabeth A Cc: Conn, Angelina V Subject: FW: TAC Review of 701 Congressional Boulevard Attachments: Treedetail Carmel.pdf; 701 congressional.pdf Unfortunately, it seems that this project has been approved before landscape comments were met. I believe they have a building permit already, however, I never got a response from them for my landscape review. If they have a permit I would like to make sure we do not release the 0/0 until the landscaping is installed from the original plan. Basically, they have had plants die all over the property over the years and have not replaced them, these need to be replaced before a 0/0 is given. If you have any questions let me know. They may need to be made aware of this requirement. I have reviewed the site plan and offer the following comments: URBAN FORESTRY REVIEW COMMENTS 1) I have reviewed the last landscape plan for the property (attached). There are many trees that have been removed and not replaced. Please replace the missing landscaping (noted in yellow). 2) As for the hawthorn trees in the area to have new construction, I will not expect that these trees be replaced or transplanted. Replacing the required trees throughout the site will satisfy my review. 3) There are ash trees that are to be replanted, because of the emerald ash borer, ash trees are no longer allowed to be planted. I would like to suggest the State tree, the tuliptree as a viable 6/20/2011 substitution. Also, the VP must have been switched to CV on the plant list but not the plan back in the day and the RB was removed on the list but not the plan, RB is normally River Birch I hand wrote that in for the species to be replaced. 4) I would like to have the attached Carmel planting details which are recommended for City of Carmel projects. Ideally, I would like to have the landscape plan attached with my planting detail added with a letter that the highlighted trees will be replaced. Please illustrate how these comments will be addressed by letter or revised plan. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me. Thanks. Sincerely, Daren Mindham Urban Forester City of Carmel Department of Community Services One Civic Square Carmel, Indiana 46032 Office: 317 571 -2283 *The true meaning of life is to plant trees, under whose shade you do not expect to sit.
