If your hours and days operations exceed what is listed in the Indiana General Administrative rules then your building must comply with the current rules established by the Indiana Fire and Building Codes. You should consult with a design professional or Architect who is registered with the state of Indiana if you need assistance with fire and building code compliance in reference to building design changes and alterations to your building should you need assistance. Please refer to my letter dated 6/2/11 for specifics on hours and days of operations regulated by the GAR. I am not sure what agency with the state who you spoke to, however it sounds like you will need to comply with what they have told your as well. If you would like to meet with someone with the Carmel Fire Dept. we can schedule a meeting at the Carmel Fire Dept. Headquarters if you would like. Respectfully, Lt. Chris Ellison Deputy Fire Marshal Carmel Fire Dept. 317- 571 -2621 From: vrodriguez amiescuelitaindy.com jmailto: vrodriguez @miescuelitaindy.coml Sent Monday, June 20, 2011 2:33 PM To: Ellison, Christopher M Cc: Conn, Angelina V; Giovina Cecili. Subject: TAC meeting questions Dear Chris, after the meeting on .Wednesday, we revised the letter that you sent us about our hours of operation. We made the changes to our schedule to comply with these rules. We will be offering in the Fall classes from 8:30 11:30am Mon Thu. However, we would like to know a little bit more about the rules or modifications to our building in order to expand our hours of operation. You mentioned something about contacting someone from the State? We did went to our State orientation course and what they had mentioned to us was different that what you told us. They did say that we could not have the children for more that 9 consecutive days in our program, and that they could not be there for more than 4 hours a day. However, for what you say, if we understood correctly, we can just operate 12 hours a week. Correct? So, I wanted to see if it is possible to have a courtesy visit from someone in the fire department to guide us on what we need to be ready to start in August. 1 Our State counselor told us that every city has its own regulations and that we should check with you because the State rules are the ones l mentioned above and are different of what you told us. Any comments and help will be greatly appreciated because we want to offer the best to our little scholars. Have a great day and look we forwarding to hear from you soon. i~U.ita Spanish Immersion Preschool 120 3rd St. NW Carmel, TN46(}37 (317)575-9379 vrodriguez@miescuahtdnJv.com www.nniescue|itaindy.corn 2 Conn, Angelina V From: vrodriguez@miescuelitaindy.com Sent: Monday, June 20, 2011 2:33 PM To: Ellison, Christopher M Cc: Conn, Angelina V; Giovina Cecili Subject: TAC meeting questions Dear Chris, after the meeting on Wednesday, we revised the letter that you sent us about our hours of operation. Our preschool is an immersion program and because of this we take children between 2 and five years old. The ratio for 2 and 3 years old is 4 children per adult. The ratio for 4 5 years old is 6:1 according to our rules. We are just two teachers, Giovina and me. We do not plan to have any other teachers soon, if we add we may add one more. Because of this ratio regulations, the number of kids we will have at a time, if we have just older kids in a day will be 12 at the time. We provide drop off and pick up service for parents. They do not have to park and bring their children inside. They arrive between 8:25 and 8:35am. Right now, it takes us around 5 to 6 minutes to load and unload children. For us staff (2) we have a driveway that fits 4 cars so parking is not a problem. Most of our families have 2 or 3 kids in our program so the number of cars dropping off right now is 6 in a busy day. I hope this helps understand a little bit more. We are a very small preschool and we are planning to stay little. Please let us know if you have any further questions. However, if you are thinking of living there and running a day care, then you could just follow the home occupation standards of the ordinance, which are attached.
