Dear Jim,
The Museum of Miniature Houses Other Collections would appreciate being
considered for a grant from the Carmel Arts Culture Fund.
As you are well aware, the Museum is a community asset and provides an anchor for
the fast growing arts and design district. It is the only full time museum in the city of
Carmel.. Through miniatures it introduces visitors to almost every art form: fine
porcelain, silver, architecture, paintings, sculpture, fiber arts, and more. It is truly a fine
arts museum in miniature. Visitors may see a home built in Nantucket at the turn of the
century as well as a scene from a home of today.
In addition to miniatures, the museum always features a special collection. These have
ranged from antique linens to vintage toy race cars to Russian Lacquer ware to hand
forged iron work.
Over 60,000 guests have toured from all 50 states and many foreign countries. There is
an active Scout program providing the opportunity to earn merit badges while learning
about interior design, architecture, spatial relationships, and history.
Last year we received a grant of $20,000. With those funds we have achieved the
following:
Purchased the equipment and software enabling us to add a self contained audio
tour capability.
Added a new octagonal, lit display case for our exhibits.
Purchased electrical cables and equipment for our annual Museum of Miniatures
Dollhouse Miniatures Show and Sale which for the past 6 years has raised
over $36,000 for the Museum. This was done because we are no longer able
to borrow the needed equipment.
Continued the implementation of the Pastime Software purchased with last year's
grant. This enables to keep track of our growing collection and mount new
exhibits four times a year.
Added two items to our permanent collection:
A Japanese farm house made by an artist from our sister city in Japan
An antique miniature tin kitchen set

For the coming year we would like to be considered for a grant of $30,000 to:
Continue the collections preservation project that was started with the grant in
2006. These storage containers protect the collections from deterioration and
water damage Estimated cost $3000
Increase regional and national advertising to bring more visitors to Carmel. The
National Association of Miniature Enthusiasts, (NAME), headquartered in
Carmel, will have their 2009 national convention in Indianapolis. They have
thousands of members throughout the U.S. and many foreign countries. It
will be a great opportunity for all the local businesses to welcome these
visitors. The convention hotel on the eastside is not in a shopping area so
Carmel will benefit and be a rare treat for the attendees. Advertising will
create increased awareness of the Museum and entice them to visit Carmel.
Estimated cost $9,500
Modernize and repair existing landscape to Arts Design District standards.
Estimated cost $3,500
Last year we purchased the audio tour software and equipment. Additional funds
are needed for implementation. Estimated cost $6,000
Replace hall, shop, and bath carpet. Current floor coverings are 20+ years old. Bath
will get tile that can be more easily cleaned. Estimated cost $3,000
Create an acquisitions fund to enable us to more readily add to the Museum's
permanent collection as the opportunity arises. Estimated cost $5,000
We very much appreciate your consideration of our request. Please let me know if
additional information is needed.
Sincerely,
C7_
