Wednesday (7/20)
9:00 am 12 pm Understanding Fire Behavior For Building Officials; An overview
of the physical and chemical changes that occur with fire, classifica-
tions of fires and the stages of fire development.
Instructor: Al Putnam
Instructor Biography: Al is the Code Enforcement Officer/Building
Commissioner for the City of Greendale. He is a member of the follow-
ing organizations; IABO Legislative Chair 2101 -2011, FIA Legislative
Chair 2010 -2011, NFPA -AEBO voting member, ICC voting member,
AACE, INFSM, Home Safety Council, IDHS District 9 Fire Instructor,
IVY Tech Adjunct Instructor Fire Science LB Campus, Greendale
Fire Department Training and Safety Officer, Greendale EMS Fire
Medic 1, RMEF, IHEA and a proud member of the NRA.
9:00 am 12 pm Indiana Residential Code Proposed Chapter 11 Amendments; An
overview of new definitions, new climate zone maps, updates to R-
values and U- values, new requirements and testing and inspection tech
niques for air barriers, and new system control and lighting require-
ments for structures built under the 2005 INRC.
Instructor: Craig Wagner
Instructor Biography: Craig is the Chief Building Inspector for the
Columbia City /Whitley County Planning and Building Department. He
serves on IABO's Code Development Committee and is chairman of
the Bylaws Committee, along with being a past 1AB0 President. Craig
has over 42 years of construction industry experience as an inspector,
contractor and manger of industrial, commercial, agriculture and resi-
dential building projects.
9:00 am 12 pm. Overview of Pre Engineered Kitchen Fire Suppression Systems
and Kitchen Exhaust Systems; This fast paced class will enhance
your practical knowledge of pre- engineered kitchen fire suppression
system performance, manufacturer's installation instructions and the
governing codes and standards, as well as provide an introduction to
commercial kitchen ventilation systems.
Instructor: David Thomas
Instructor Biography: David is a Fire Inspector and works for the La-
fayette Fire Department

1:00 pm 5:00 pm Commercial Building Indiana Energy Code Training; Compliance
with ASHRAE 90.1 -2077.
Instructors: Mike Moore, PE David Brignati, AIA, Leed AP
BD +C /Homes Architect. Both gentlemen are from Newport Ventures
Instructor Biographies: Mike has authored several landmark code
change proposals to 2012 I -codes related to building air tightness, me-
chanical ventilation, indoor air quality, and energy efficiency. He is a
site inspector, compliance assessment survey author and administrator.
And contributed to the development of Indiana roadmap for demon-
strating 90% compliance with the energy code by 2017.
David has recently been training Code Officials in New York on the
changes from the 2007 to the 2010 Energy Conservation Construction
Code. He has worked in various states including South Carolina, Geor-
gia, and Florida. With over 19 yrs. of experience as an architect, famili-
arity and use of the codes is a must when designing a building.

referenced industry standards, and new numbering system in the 2010
standards effecting facilities/buildings covered by the Americans with
Disabilities Act (ADA)
Instructor: Peter Berg
Instructor Biography: Coordinator, technical Assistance, DBTAC-
Great Lakes ADA Center, University of Illinois at Chicago. Served as
TA Coordinator for 10 yrs. Extensive experience through on job train-
ing with Federal Agencies responsible for enforcement of the ADA.
Mr. Berg has provided training for over 1,000 architects, engineers,
code officials, and designers on the new ADA Standards in the past 2
yrs. across the states served by the DBTAC -Great Lakes ADA Center.

Reading; Introductory session to flexible sprinkler head connections.
Reading and understanding the sprinkler, standpipe and fire pump an-
nual inspection reports.

9:00 am 12:00 pm Flexible Gas Piping; A complete overview of system configurations,
installation practices, connections, bonding, fireplace connections,
manifold and regulator connections.
Instructor: Art Weirauch
Instructor Biography: Art entered the CSST industry in 1989, he was
involved in the first ever CSST installation. He helped introduce the
promotion of CSST into the gas piping market and has worked towards
the adoption of CSST into the major fuel gas codes and assisted Gas
Utilities with 2 lb. distribution policies. Currently Art is involved with
bonding /grounding issues of gas piping systems and is working with
several States on code development for CSST piping.
9:00 am 12:00 pm Townhouse Construction Requirements in Indiana; Code require-
ments for dwelling separation, property line issues regarding service
utilities and a recent interpretation from the Indiana Building Law Com-
pliance Officer. Also, complete building code requirements from the
frost depth to footers and all electrical, plumbing and HVAC systems.
Please bring a copy of the 2005 Indiana Residential Code with you to
the class.
