Policy on Geometric Design of Highways Ake
and Streets, S th Edition
Higfiyy"'c?SS red
The fifth edition of AASHTO's "Greenbook" contains the latest design practices in universal use as
Na
the standard for highway geometric design and has been updated to reflect the latest research on
superelevation and side friction factors as presented in NCHRP Report 439. New exhibits in Chapter 3
will help designers quickly and accurately determine the side friction factor used for horizontal curve
design, the superelevation rates for various curve radii and the minimum radii with normal crown for
a
each of the five maximum superelevation rates. These features are carried over from the 4th edition:
Uses dual units (metric and U.S. customary) throughout;
Larger format provides easy -to -read text and graphics;
Is available on CD -ROM (single -user version);
Complies with the Americans with Disabilities Act;w
Discusses the new AASHTO Bicycle Guide and soon- to -be- released AASHTO Pedestrian Guide; and
Incorporates research from NCHRP Reports 383,400,42o ands

in the sixth edition. A significant amount of new data has been collected and 16 new land uses have GENERATION
been added. New land uses include: assisted living; continuing care retirement community; batting r'
cages; adult cabaret; multiplex movie theater; soccer complex; athletic club; private school (kindergarten
to grade 8); pet supply superstore; office supply superstore; book superstore; discount home furnishing a

Trip Generation Handbook, 2nd Edition&
Trip Generation Handbook, 2nd Edition incorporates changes necessary for consistency with the
data contained in the seventh edition of Trip Generation, which was released in November 2003. The
recommendations inthis publication have not changed from the 2ool edition of the handbook. Additional
data have been added to Chapter 5, Pass -By, Diverted and Linked Trips. All other changes are strictly x
editorial updates to the material contained in the 2ooi handbook.This recommended practice provides 9 F
guidelines for application and interpretation of trip generation data.Topics covered in the handbook include
guidelines for estimating site trip generation, collecting local trip generation data, developing local trip
generation rates, estimating pass -by trips and estimating trip generation for multi -use land developments.
Informational pieces also are provided on truck trip generation, the effects of travel demand management 40MV xa" d
s
and transit on trip generation and a summary of literature on multi -use developments.
