Making the Sign Ordinance more fair /equal across the board b. Making it easier to understand by condensing sections and utilizing more consistent language /terms c. Provide links to definitions and maps /overlay zones 2. Maintain key provisions which set Carmel apart from other cities 3. Re- arrange and condense sections of Sign Ordinance to be clearer /easier to read and understand 4. Eliminate repetition within the Sign Ordinance OVERVIEW OF CHANGES 1. Create a Visual Guide with examples and text corresponding to sections in the Sign Ordinance 2. General Provisions a. Adding clarification to Sign Maintenance provisions b. Condensing /clarifying Prohibited Sign section 3. Permanent Signs a. Add a general requirements section at the beginning to reduce duplication within categories b. Combine Subdivision Multi Family Housing Complex to Residential Complex c. Combine Home Occupation and Boarding House for Residential and Business zones d. Eliminate Institutional and Recreational Uses sections e. Eliminate Special Use and Use Variance sign section f. New section for Multi- Tenant Buildings which combines the following sections: i. Multi Tenant Ground Floor Building ii. Mutli- Tenant Multi -Level Building iii. Multi- Tenant Building Complex iv. Multi- level, Mixed Use Building (a new category) g. Simplify Window Sign provisions h. Add more information to Drive -Thru Service Menu sign section i. Combine Old Town and Old Meridian sections j. Add section for Carmel Dr. Range Line Rd. Overlay Zone k. Add section for Miscellaneous Permanent Sign 4. Temporary Signs a. Add a general requirements section at the beginning to reduce duplication within categories b. Combine Subdivision and Non Residential Multi Family Complex Construction signs into one Construction Sign section c. Clarifying Real Estate sign section d. Combine Additional Signs in Residential Zones into Signage for Temporary Uses e. Expand Permitted Banners section to be more like the other sections f. Add section for Yard Sale and Open House signs g. Add section for Miscellaneous Temporary Signs 5. Sign Charts a. A: Eliminate ground sign height has been added to each section it applies to. b. B: No changes c. C: Address number heights have been altered to meet minimum Fire Code regulations.
